[소통] From Gwanghwamun to the World: The ARIRANG Era Is Just Beginning
What the world tour, the Netflix documentary, and $1.93 billion in projected revenue tell us about the scale of BTS' return
The Gwanghwamun concert was the opening act. Everything that follows is the main event.
The ARIRANG World Tour — confirmed at 82 shows across 34 regions, running from April 2026 to March 2027, with potential expansion to 100 dates per iM Securities analysts — is described by BigHit as the largest world tour in K-pop history. At an average of 50,000 attendees per show in a 360-degree stage format, the tour could reach five million people across a single cycle. That figure alone would make it one of the most-attended music tours ever staged.
Financial analysts have been doing the math. IBK Investment & Securities estimates BTS' full comeback — album, tour, merchandise, and partnerships — could generate at least 2.9 trillion Korean won, approximately $1.93 billion USD. That figure approaches the territory of Taylor Swift's Eras Tour, which redefined the economic ceiling for what a pop music event can generate. Bloomberg, meanwhile, estimated that the Gwanghwamun comeback concert alone generated up to $177 million in economic impact for Seoul through tourism and consumer spending in a single weekend.
The content pipeline extends beyond the tour. BTS: The Return, a Netflix documentary, arrives on March 27 — less than a week after the Gwanghwamun show. BTS and Spotify are co-running a multi-city fan engagement series, including a private fan event in New York City and a three-day Han River cruise in Seoul. The ecosystem of ARIRANG is not just an album cycle. It is a year-long cultural event.
The album's 110 million first-day streams, the 4 million physical copies sold, the historic Gwanghwamun concert, the Netflix global broadcast — all of it has been, in industry terms, a launch sequence. The rocket is now airborne.
BTS left at the height of their power. They returned with more. And the ARIRANG era is only just beginning.
