[talk] BTS Is Back — Everything You Need to Know About ARIRANG, Their Most Anticipated Album in Years
After nearly four years of silence as a group, BTS is making one of the most talked-about comebacks in pop music history. Their fifth studio album, ARIRANG, is set to drop on March 20, 2026 — and the countdown has ARMY around the world barely able to breathe.
The album's title is drawn from one of Korea's most beloved traditional folk songs, a centuries-old melody historically tied to themes of longing, separation, and reunion. It's a title the seven members — RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook — personally chose, and it couldn't be more fitting. After each member completed their mandatory military service in South Korea and spent time on solo projects, ARIRANG represents their full return as a unit and a deeply personal statement about where they are right now.
The full 14-track listing was revealed on March 3, 2026, through BTS's official Instagram and Weverse accounts in a striking black, white, and red graphic. The album opens with "Body to Body" and moves through tracks like "Hooligan," "Aliens," "FYA," and "2.0," before a brief interlude titled "No. 29" splits the record in half. The lead single, "SWIM," sits at track seven — and it was unmissable in the tracklist reveal, being highlighted in black while every other song appeared against red strips. The hashtag #BTS_SWIM was also included in the Instagram caption, with BigHit Music later officially confirming it as the title track.
"SWIM" is described as an upbeat alternative pop song built around the message of continuing to move forward through life's challenges without stopping — a theme that feels especially meaningful after everything the group has been through. The album's second half continues with "Merry Go Round," "Normal," "Like Animals," "they don't know 'bout us," "One More Night," and "Please," before closing with "Into the Sun," described as the record's anthemic final statement — a heartfelt confession about running toward someone you love.
The production credits read like a dream team of contemporary music. Alongside longtime BTS collaborator Pdogg, the album features work from Diplo, Kevin Parker of Tame Impala, Flume, JPEGMAFIA, Mike WiLL Made-It, Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic, El Guincho, and Teezo Touchdown, among others. RM holds writing credits on nearly every track, with the only exception being the interlude "No. 29." The members have described the album as deeply personal, with BigHit Music stating that it "encompasses the identity of BTS and the sentiments accumulated over their journey."
All seven members gathered in Los Angeles during the summer of 2025 to write and record the album, and by November, Jimin confirmed through Weverse that all the tracks were finished. RM had been teasing fans with updates throughout the process, telling the fandom the music was "coming out really well" and that "everyone's trying."
ARIRANG is available for pre-save on Spotify, Apple Music, and other major platforms, and pre-orders opened on January 16, 2026. Physical editions include exclusive photo cards and collectibles. The digital album is priced at $15.99. Pre-save numbers have already broken records on streaming platforms, a testament to the enormous anticipation surrounding the release. For BTS and ARMY alike, March 20 is more than just a release date — it's a reunion.
