According to the fire department and other rescue authorities, at around 9:07 am on the 29th, Flight 7C2216 crashed and collided with the outer wall of the runway while attempting to land on the Muan International Airport runway. Of the 181 passengers on board (175 passengers, 6 crew members), 179 people, excluding 2 crew members, died in the accident.

Acting President and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Strategy and Finance Choi Sang-mok designated a seven-day period of national mourning until January 4.
