The author, a journalist and music critic, analyzed IU's music with professional depth through interviews with over 80 people, including a professor of practical music (vocals), vocal trainers, and composers.
As of July 2024, IU's official YouTube channel has over 9.72 million subscribers. The author says, "As a solo singer, there is no other artist with such an active fandom," and "(IU's) age is 31, but considering the quantity and quality of her discography, she is already a 'mid-career' singer."
