From the reason why Choo Shin-soo's two sons gave up their Korean citizenship to the explanation of the 'national team dine-and-dash' controversy, and the fans' reactions at the retirement ceremony. His career was legendary, but why was there a difference in the fans' reactions?

1. Choo Shin-soo's sons renounce Korean citizenship... what is the real reason?

The news that both of Choo Shin-soo's sons had renounced their Korean citizenship once sparked a controversy over 'draft evasion.'
But on Choo Shin-soo's side "It is a decision that respects the children's wishes and has nothing to do with exemption from military service. "He explained.

The explanation was that most of the children grew up in the United States and had no concept of Korean citizenship.
In fact, since I was born in the United States and have lived there my entire life, it seems right to see it as me choosing to live in the United States.

2. What did Choo Shin-soo say about the 'national team dine-and-dash' controversy?

Choo Shin-soo has played for the national team only twice.
2009 WBC, 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games. He won gold medals here and was exempted from military service.
But after that, he never appeared on the national team even once, and there was a misunderstanding that he was a 'hit and run'.

However, Choo Shin-soo later explained honestly on a radio broadcast.
It was difficult for him to play due to physical problems, strong opposition from the club, and contract issues.

Even “If I get injured while playing, I won’t receive my salary.” Even though he said that, his team was said to be strongly opposed to it.
In the end, it seems that misunderstandings arose because the explanation was not sufficiently conveyed to Korean fans.

3. The retirement ceremony was grand, but the fans’ reaction was cold?

SSG prepared a really fancy retirement ceremony for Choo Shin-soo.
Family first pitch, MLB teammate invitations, fireworks, and even commemorative towels…

But the actual fan reaction was cold. Why is that?

The point is that the player that fans thought was a true legend was Kim Kang-min.

Kim Kang-min, who devoted 23 years to a team, left the team without even a retirement ceremony.
On the other hand, the fans were not convinced that they were only giving a lavish retirement ceremony to Choo Shin-soo, who had played for four years.

In addition, there was controversy over the club's personnel affairs, and the fact that Park Jeong-tae is Choo Shin-soo's relative also added to the controversy.
As a result, the retirement ceremony was held with the fans' hearts distant.

It ended up being 'the last greeting of a lonely legend' with only the club and family congratulating him and the fans' support missing.
