I have summarized the situation, including the controversy surrounding additional messages following the statement, and the reactions from fans.

It was in the 'controversy' stage until just a few days ago Exdiz (Exdinary Heroes) Gunil Issue, Ultimately, due to withdrawal finish That's enough 😢 On August 13, JYP Entertainment announced the termination of the contract, and Gunil himself posted a long statement on the fan community. However, the situation is continuing as even the messages he sent after that have become controversial.

On August 13, JYP Entertainment officially announced that they have terminated their exclusive contract with Gunil by mutual agreement and that he is leaving the group as of today. i did it.

The reason is "As a result of deeply recognizing the gravity of the situation regarding the recent matter involving member Geonil and discussing it from various angles" They only stated that, and did not mention the details.

2. The controversy that started it

A few days ago, Geonil's Controversy arises as a netizen claiming to be a former lover releases KakaoTalk conversations and call recordings. This began. The recording contained inappropriate remarks directed at fans, but at the time, it was not confirmed whether the voice belonged to Geon-il. Afterwards Geonil personally admitted, "That voice was me." While doing so, the suspicions were confirmed to be true.

but He emphasized, "The target of my emotional remarks was some malicious fans, not the Villains who supported me," and expressed regret, saying, "I wanted to remain an Exdys until the end." I also left some. (Full text attached at the bottom)

Reactions pointing out the contrast in tone as a warm farewell message followed immediately after a heavy apology. This is what came out.

5. What is the fans' reaction?

skeptical reaction

  • Reactions such as "Seeing that they sent a sweet message immediately after being comforted, it looks like only they feel relieved," and "It feels like the other person has already moved on."
  • Critics point out that it is contradictory to explain in the statement that the remarks were "directed at a specific malicious fan," only to send a heartwarming farewell message shortly afterward.
  • There is also a reinterpretation of the remark itself, suggesting that it revealed one's usual disposition rather than a momentary emotional outburst.
  • There are many cases of other famous idol groups having serious sasaeng (obsessive fan) issues, but comparative opinions suggest that it is rare for a case to lead to a withdrawal to this extent.
  • JYP stated that it was a "mutual agreement," but some fans speculated that it was effectively a company-led withdrawal (this has not been officially confirmed).

Reactions from the side that sympathizes

  • The opinion is that since he explained the parts where he felt wronged while clearly admitting to the statement itself, the assessment that he is "making excuses to the very end" is excessive.
  • The interpretation is that the bubble message was not sent out of relief, but as a response to fans who wondered if the thank-you message delivered on stage was sincere.
  • The view is that, as it serves as both an apology and a farewell in a situation where continued togetherness is impossible, its format is inevitably different from a typical apology letter that promises to prevent recurrence.
  • However, even among those who view the apology positively, many find it difficult to judge whether going as far as withdrawing over such remarks was the right decision, or if it is a matter significant enough to try and keep them. The prevailing sentiment is to draw a line, suggesting that "the apology itself is not serious enough to warrant criticism."

Full text of the statement

Hello, this is Gu Geon-il from Villains.

This will likely be my last greeting as Exdiz.

I really wanted to remain with Exdiz until the very end and protect the six of us. However, as you know, I had no choice but to accept the company's decision. I still can't quite believe it is real. I have so much I want to say to the Villains. I still don't know where to start or how to tell you.

However, now that I am no longer a member of Exdiz, I do not wish to hide the truth or make excuses with lies for my own sake. I am writing this because I believe there are still things I need to tell you personally.

First of all, the author of the post that started this matter is someone I met through an acquaintance and had known for about two weeks. At the time, I was mentally exhausted due to the malicious comments that had been ongoing, false stories about me, and various concerns regarding Xdiz's music and performances. It was a period when I felt more comfortable confiding my frustrations to a stranger who didn't know me well, rather than opening up and causing worry to those close to me.

It is true that I am the one who made inappropriate remarks toward the fans in the phone call recording released to the Villains. Regardless of the reason, the fact that I said those things remains unchanged. I sincerely apologize to everyone who must have been disappointed and hurt. However, I would like to tell the truth about the situation and emotions I was in at the time, and who those words were directed at. Earlier this year, not only were there incidents of sasaeng fans breaking into our dorm, but they even attached GPS trackers to my personal vehicle and followed me around. Experiencing these things led to a deep fear and resentment toward some malicious fans, and I went through a very difficult time emotionally. However, as I was both the leader and an older member, I could not easily talk about my fears or anxieties. I tried my best to manage my emotions on my own. Then, in June of this year, together with the members, we prepared for the Inspire Arena concert with the determination to show the Villains the best performance possible. We prepared with our absolute best efforts, and after finishing the first day's performance, I checked social media with anticipation. Of course, no performance can be perfect, and we believe that we must acknowledge our shortcomings and continue to improve. However, on that day, beyond mere opinions or criticisms regarding the performance, we encountered many malicious posts that were difficult for us to comprehend. Since it was a performance we had prepared with all our hearts, I believe I was emotionally devastated by the unexpected criticism and malicious comments. Yet, I did not want to cause worry to the company staff or the members, so I could not easily open up about my feelings. Eventually, I vented my pent-up emotions to someone I had only recently met, and in the process, I unhesitatingly blurted out very harsh and inappropriate expressions. I did not imagine that the conversation would be recorded and made public. However, regardless of whether it is made public or not, I clearly know that the very act of saying those things was wrong. There is one thing, however, that I must clarify. The targets of my emotional outburst at the time were some malicious fans who hid behind anonymity to indiscriminately criticize us or invade our privacy. I absolutely did not say those things to all the "Villains" who have trusted and supported us. Because I have strived to show the image of a diligent and reliable leader, I believe the disappointment and sense of betrayal you must have felt through this incident must have been even greater. I am truly sorry for that. Around the time of the Inspire Concert in June, I was going through a difficult time emotionally for various reasons. It is true that I met that person around that time as well, and that I relied on them emotionally to some extent back then. I know this might sound like an excuse. However, I want to make it absolutely clear that I did not say those things to the Villains, whom I truly loved and trusted. Furthermore, it would be a lie to say that I never once had any complaints about the members, with whom I always lived and shared so much of my work and private life. However, I can proudly say, without an ounce of shame, that I sincerely cherished and loved the members during my time as an EXDZ member, and that I was always grateful for the love the Villains sent me. To me, the members were always people I was proud of, and the Villains were always people I was grateful to.

Now, I no longer have any way to prove it, nor any chance to rebuild the shattered trust, even once. Nevertheless, I wanted to say one last time that my feelings for my fans and my members have always been sincere. I believe that the fans who have been with me for so long, the staff and employees I worked with, my beloved members, and my close friends and acquaintances know best just how sincerely I loved them. Lastly, I would like to sincerely apologize to my fans, who must have been hurt the most by this incident. It breaks my heart the most knowing that the countless hours and feelings you sent to support me, and even the moments you believed in me, must all feel futile and meaningless to you. Ultimately, I have left a wound that cannot be easily erased, just as much as the love you have shown me. It is agonizing to know that the people I love and cherish are suffering because of me. I still cannot believe it is real, and it feels like I am having a nightmare. If I feel this way, I cannot even begin to imagine how much more difficult it must be for you, my fans. I am truly sorry. I know that words of apology alone cannot fully express or undo the pain I have caused. From fan signing events and fan meetings to concerts, overseas tours, and festivals—countless moments spent with the Villains come to mind. I sincerely thank you for gifting me so much love and so many memories during all that time. I will never forget the love you gave me and the memories we shared together. I sincerely thank you for liking and supporting me despite my shortcomings. Although I could not show you a beautiful ending, thanks to the Villains, I am leaving with so many happy moments in my life that I will never forget. Now that I am leaving X-Diz, I will never forget the love and support you sent to me, Gu Geon-il. And wherever I may be in the future, I will forever cheer for your lives as well. I would be grateful if you would continue to love and support our X-Diz. Every single one of the five members is truly admirable, cool, and lovable younger brother. Although we were unable to fulfill the dream of performing together at Wembley, I will now support and cheer from a step behind so that these friends can definitely achieve that dream someday. I poured everything I had into X-Diz and the Villains; I truly liked and loved them very much. Thank you for being with me through my youth. This is Gu Geon-il. Thank you.
