Finished binge-watching the new Netflix thriller *The Field Mouse* all the way to the ending of Episode 10! I will neatly explain the identities of the three Je Mun-jaes, the twist involving the fake, and the hidden meaning behind Seo Yu-min's death in the ending.

The atmosphere changes completely starting from episode 5 as the field mouse makes its full appearance, As the story progresses toward the latter half, the clues are tied up one by one, revealing spine-chilling truths. It was a drama with a definite charm that kept me hooked all the way to episode 10 without a single dull moment!

After watching the whole drama You might be wondering, "Who on earth is the real Je Mun-jae?" To start with the conclusion, all three Je Mun-jaes were both real and fake.

 

First Je Mun-jae (Detective Park Sun-yong): Park Soon-yong (Lee Kyu-hyung), an orphan, was the first to be adopted by Je Mun-jae's parents as a child and lived under the name 'Je Mun-jae'. However, he was disowned again when his parents had a biological son. He is the first person to have the name Je Mun-jae in terms of social status.

 

The second Je Mun-jae (Novelist Je Mun-jae) : The body and ID card are indeed those of the real Je Mun-jae. However, due to the side effects of panic disorder medication and delusions, he continuously distorted his memories, and crucially, the 'writing'—the essence of a novelist—was not his own.

 

Third Je Mun-jae (Seo Yu-min / Field Mouse): He is Je Mun-jae's senior in the university club and the true original author of the novel. Back in his college days, Je Mun-jae was actually not a real student but an auditing student. Out of jealousy of Seo Yu-min (Ryu Jun-yeol), a real college student with genius writing talent, and his girlfriend So Min-young, he stole Seo Yu-min's notebooks and debuted as a novelist.

 

Furthermore, due to a misguided obsession with So Min-young, he spread rumors on the school bulletin board, and eventually, So Min-young made an extreme choice. Seo Yu-min, having been stripped of everything and even his lover, had completely stolen Je Mun-jae's identity and set up a perfect revenge.

4. Seo Yu-min's Death Ending and Interpretation of the Final Conclusion

At the end of the final fight on the ferry bound for Jeju, Je Mun-jae brutally stabs Seo Yu-min with a weapon and pushes him into the sea. On the surface, it appears as though Je Mun-jae has won, surviving and returning to his original apartment with a Han River view.

 

However, the surviving Je Mun-jae begins to bizarrely mimic the behavior of 'Field Mouse Je Mun-jae,' played by Seo Yu-min. Upon seeing this, Detective Park Sun-yong, No-ja, and even the editor-in-chief immediately realize that he has survived.

 

The real tragedy begins now. Je Mun-jae hit the jackpot with the first volume of Seo Yu-min's novel *Field Mouse*, but he cannot stop the contents of the second volume, where the whole truth is revealed.

 

He ended up unable to escape the shackles of Seo Yu-min, who had already perfectly orchestrated the whole situation before his death. The episode ends with the sound of Seung-gyu, an identity launderer, banging on the door as if to break it down; it was a brilliant ending that showed the beginning of a hell where life is not truly living.
