3. Doctor X Original Plot
🐺 A freelance surgeon who dislikes crowds
The setting is a Japanese university hospital where the medical department has weakened and factional infighting is rampant.
The one who appeared to fill that void is Daimon Michiko, a freelance doctor not affiliated with any hospital.
Michiko dislikes authority, bondage, and group dynamics.
My only weapons are my specialist license and surgical skills honed through personal experience!
I cut off all 'things that don't require a license,' such as following professors on rounds, writing papers for others, and attending company dinners, by saying "I do not do them."
Instead, when faced with a surgery that no one else can touch, it ends with a single phrase: "Well, I never fail." 😎
It’s a routine in every episode for Director Kanbara to show up at the hospital with a premium melon and a jaw-dropping bill after surgery 🍈
The higher-ups consider Michiko a thorn in their side, but they have no choice but to call her whenever a difficult surgery comes up, so it was incredibly satisfying to watch the whole thing.
🔥 Seasonal Plot
The charm of the original work is that the setting and the 'final boss' change every season. It is.
Season 1: She confronts Director Busujima at the Teito Medical University Hospital branch. The doctors who sided with Michiko are demoted one after another to provincial areas.
Season 2: Hiruma, the ultimate power-hungry king, makes an appearance. Amidst the battle for the head professor position, Ebina steals the credit for the ultra-difficult surgery Michiko successfully performed 😂
Season 3 The setting is the National Advanced Medical Center, which is divided into East and West factions. Michiko personally performs surgery on the collapsed Director Kanbara and saves him.
Season 4 At the hospital, Hospital Director Hiruma and Vice Director Kubo engage in a power struggle, and a colleague named Hiromi is diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
Season 5 Amidst the political turmoil involving even the president of the doctors' association, a crisis arises where Michiko herself collapses.
Season 6: Nicholas Tange, an executive determined to save the deficit-ridden hospital, clashes with Michiko as he pushes for cost reductions.
Season 7: In the COVID era, Hachisuka, an infectious disease specialist hostile to surgery, takes over the hospital.
Ultimately, the core of every season is just one.
While everyone else is swayed by hospital politics, Michiko alone focuses solely on the 'patients' until the very end ✨
4. Changes in the Korean version
Director Lee Jung-rim retained the framework and setting of the original work but reinterpreted it with Korean sensibilities. He revealed that he did it 💬
name : Daimon Michiko → Gye Soo-jung, Kanbara → Jang Hee-sook (Lee Jung-eun), Busujima → Boo Seung-kwon (Son Hyun-joo), Morimoto → Park Tae-kyung (Kim Woo-seok)
Director : Mentor-like male director → Aunt-like female director
Regular game : Mahjong → Billiards
atmosphere : satirical comedy → heavy noir
Protagonist's past : Starting with a scene of a burning overseas medical facility Starting much darker
Still, the scene where they tear up the contract and declare, "I won't do it," was a welcome sight because it retained the authentic feel of the original. 😆
