1. Gaeumchae Netflix Release Schedule and Basic Information

First of all, the Netflix release schedule that you are probably most curious about is that it will be available starting Friday, October 16, 2026!

Genre: Romance, Historical Drama, Social Struggle, Marriage First, Romance Later

Director/Screenplay: Director Yang Long (Jiao Chao, Yan Huaishi) / Writer He Xia (Story of Yanxi Palace, The Jade Ming Tea)

In particular, since the script is written by Writer Joo-han, who wrote *Story of Yanxi Palace*, I am already really looking forward to the signature thrilling family intrigue and spicy plot developments!

2. Key Characters at a Glance

This drama is rumored to have insane character chemistry, and the lead cast's charm is truly amazing.

Wiyo / Achu (Actor: Jeon Hee-mi)

She was originally the true noble lady of Seung-an's uncle, but was stripped of her status at a young age and raised as 'Achu,' a lowly person collecting human waste. To raise money for her adoptive mother's hospital bills, she enters into a proxy marriage with the dying Crown Prince, taking the place of a fake lady who looks exactly like her. She is a clever and strong-willed character!

Military (Actor: Jeon Hee-mi / Dual Role)

She is a fake young lady who has enjoyed wealth and luxury by stealing Wi-yo's true identity. She is extremely arrogant and cruel, so she will stop at nothing to kill Wi-yo, fearing that he might try to take her place. It promises to be quite entertaining to watch actress Jeon Hee-mi deliver a completely different, venomous performance.

Yuk Tak (Actor: Yan An)

As the Crown Prince of the State, he is a cool-headed and responsible figure. His arrogant fiancée was possessed by Chilseong, but after miraculously waking from a coma, he keeps her at bay and traps her in all manner, though he gradually comes to love her sincerely.

Cheokjunggae (Actor: Ryu So-buk)

He is the second son of the Pingxihou clan and a key figure who adds tension to the drama by getting entangled with the main characters.

3. Includes spoilers for the original novel! How will it end?

The original novel and the drama have slightly different major settings. In the novel, Wei Yao was of noble birth from the beginning, and the story was about her entering into a contract marriage with Lu Zhuo under the condition of a 'five-year divorce ban' to escape threats from powerful court officials.

The drama has been adapted into a 'battle for identity involving a dual role,' making the conflict much more dopamine-fueled!

To give you a slight spoiler for the ending of the original novel:

At first, Wei Yao and Lu Zhuo were extremely suspicious of each other and aimed their blades at one another, wondering 'who will get caught first,' but as they navigated through the ugly conspiracies and power struggles within the Ministry of Works together, they came to completely fall for each other.

In the end, Yuk-tak realizes Wi-yo's true worth and warm heart, and is reborn as a perfect 'wife-obsessed' husband. Wi-yo also completely eliminates the fake noblewoman who tormented her and the family's conspiracy, reclaims her stolen true identity, and achieves a happy ending with Yuk-tak!

There is a very high probability that the drama will also maintain this satisfying ending framework and conclude with a full happy ending.

4. Frequently Asked Questions (Q&A)

Q1. It is rated 19+ on Netflix; is the level of nudity high?

A. It is highly likely due to the depiction of brutal power struggles and violent situations rather than the level of explicit content! Given the nature of Chinese historical dramas, it appears the high domestic age rating was set not because of excessive sexual nudity, but because of stimulating narrative elements such as life-threatening threats over identity revelations and fierce family feuds.

Q2. Will it be released immediately on Netflix Korea?

A. It is listed as a release scheduled for October 16, but since the domestic copyright is held by Zhonghua TV, the upload time to Netflix Korea may differ from mainland China by a few hours to a few days depending on the subtitle work and review schedule.

Q3. Is there a significant difference in the setting between the original novel and the drama?

A. The main storyline of "marriage first, then romance" remains the same, but a new conflict involving actress Jeon Hee-mi's "double role (real daughter vs. fake daughter)" has been added to the drama! Thanks to this, you can look forward to a much more thrilling and suspenseful plot development than the original.
