4. Plot of the British ITV Original *Liar*
This drama is a remake of the psychological thriller series *Liar*, which aired on ITV in the UK in 2017 and garnered a lot of attention.
The original British series consists of a total of 12 episodes, divided into Season 1 (6 episodes) and Season 2 (6 episodes). It appears that the reason the Korean version of *Liar* was planned as a single 12-episode season was precisely to compress the entire length of the original into a single sitting.
5. Spoiler for the ending of the original UK season 1
For those of you who came here curious about the original ending, here come the full spoilers!
In the early part of Season 1, it really makes you confused whether the man is being unfairly treated or if the woman has a victim mentality, To start with the conclusion, the woman's claim was 100% true. The male protagonist, Andrew, was a shameless serial rapist who committed crimes by secretly putting drugs in wine during dates.
Laura finds a memory card that Andrew had secretly hidden, and it contains footage of the crimes committed against not only Laura but also as many as 17 women.
The police are dispatched to arrest him after evidence is found, but Andrew quickly runs away. The truly spine-chilling ending of Season 1 explodes here. Season 1 concludes as Andrew, who had gone into hiding, is found dead in a cold swamp with a deep stab wound to the neck.
6. Spoiler for the final ending of the original UK season 2
Season 2 unfolds as a murder mystery trying to uncover "Who on earth killed Andrew?"
While on the run, Andrew devised an elaborate scheme to frame Laura for murder by threatening an acquaintance to fake his own death. However, at the last minute, he attacked Laura again and attempted to kill her with drugs, but failed.
Eventually, a physical struggle breaks out between the two, and Laura risks her life to resist, ultimately slitting Andrew's throat with a knife and killing him herself. In other words, the real culprit who killed Andrew was none other than the victim, Laura herself.
However, Laura ultimately does not confess this to the police. An accomplice involved in Andrew's conspiracy ends up taking the blame due to fabricated evidence, and although the police strongly suspect Laura, they are unable to find clear physical evidence.
In the end, it concludes with a bitter and chilling open ending where the victim, who fought desperately to reveal the truth, returns to their daily life with the secret of the murder they committed buried forever.
