North Korean defector Kim Hak-seong is making headlines for taking on an idol survival program. On the KBS 2TV global idol debut project 'MAKE MATE 1' that aired on the 15th, Kim Hak-seong revealed why he dreamed of becoming an idol. On that day's broadcast, 'defector' was mentioned as a keyword to introduce Kim Hak-seong. Kim Hak-seong said, "When I first came to Korea, I was most worried about how I would adapt to society," and "Then I saw idols on TV, and they were so cool that I dreamed of becoming an idol singer." He added, "I was hesitant to talk about my background, but I thought I would run away or avoid it if I didn't face it here, so I thought I would become a little stronger through this opportunity."

'MA1' is a global idol debut project that KBS is launching for the first time in about 6 years. The 35 global 'everyday boys' have the meaning of 'time to become one (ONE) with friends (MATE) to create the stage of their dreams (MAKE)'.
