KakaoTalk Out of Service for Two Days in a Row‥Government Urgent Inspection

According to Kakao, from 8:30 to 9:24 a.m. today, some users were unable to log in or send or receive messages smoothly on the PC version of KakaoTalk.

Kakao said it "responded immediately after becoming aware of the problem," but did not provide a detailed explanation of the cause of the outage, saying only that it was an "internal system error."

Kakao's service outages have occurred three times in the past nine days.

The Ministry of Science and ICT has launched an emergency on-site inspection due to the continuous occurrence of KakaoTalk outages.

The Ministry of Science and ICT explained, "We are conducting an on-site investigation with experts in related fields such as software and networks, and thoroughly checking the cause of the failure, recovery status, and measures to prevent recurrence." It added, "We plan to work with the business operator to fix any shortcomings to prevent service failures from recurring."
