Kim Ho-joong who passed the buck to “the manager driving”… Did he follow Lee Jung-jae and Kwon Sang-woo’s methods?

While singer Kim Ho-joong (33) is causing controversy with a drunk driving accident, the dark history of actors Lee Jung-jae (51) and Kwon Sang-woo (47) is also being brought up again. The two actors were involved in a traffic accident in the past, but they falsely stated that their managers drove instead, causing controversy.

On the 22nd, posts reexamining the driver-switching incident involving Lee Jung-jae and Kwon Sang-woo were posted on multiple online communities.

Lee Jung-jae was driving a foreign car while intoxicated at around 2:10 AM on September 13, 1999 in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, when he got into a collision. At the time, his blood alcohol level was 0.222%, which was well above the license revocation standard (0.08% or higher).

He denied the charges immediately after the accident, saying, "I did not drive, my manager did it instead." However, when the police investigation began, he admitted to driving and had his license revoked.

Kwon Sang-woo even ran away from the police. It started with an illegal left turn. On the morning of June 12, 2010, in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, the police chased Kwon Sang-woo’s car after seeing him make an illegal left turn by crossing the center line. Kwon Sang-woo panicked and ran away to a nearby apartment, causing a collision with a parked car.

Kwon Sang-woo did not stop his car even after the first accident. He caused a second accident with the police car chasing him, and only stopped his car after crashing into a wedding hall facility 350 meters away from the first accident scene. After that, he got out of his car and left the scene on foot.

Kwon Sang-woo went into hiding to avoid police contact. In the meantime, Kwon Sang-woo's manager went to the police and falsely confessed that he was the driver. After repeated questioning by the police, the manager confessed that it was "Kwon Sang-woo's car", but when Kwon Sang-woo was contacted later, he said that he was in the countryside and postponed his appearance at the police station for two days.

At the time, netizens suspected that "Kwon Sang-woo fled the scene of the accident to hide the fact that he was driving under the influence." However, the investigative authorities were unable to prove that Kwon Sang-woo was driving under the influence, and Kwon Sang-woo was only given a fine.

In July of that year, the 5th Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Park Gyun-taek) indicted Kwon Sang-woo with a fine of 5 million won on charges of failing to take action after an accident under the Road Traffic Act.

As the cases of Lee Jung-jae and Kwon Sang-woo are being reexamined, criticism is emerging that Kim Ho-joong benchmarked the two actors' methods.
