To the afterimage of the star

09. The Beginning of You and Me

All characters existing in the virtual universe naturally realize where Caelum is and what they are the moment they are born.

Fortunately, there is no need to go through the ontological dilemma of, "Am I a character created by someone else?" that usually comes to mind.

Just as a human being is born and learns that he or she is a human being and how to breathe, walk, and move.

But that was like a curse to me.

The moment I opened my eyes here, I knew I would never be able to leave.

Or should I rather be thankful that it didn't give me false hope?

Space of life.

A place where characters who have not yet been born, or who were born but lost Terrain's interest and disappeared, sleep in the form of cubes.

Contrary to its lively name, this place was dark and desolate, without sunlight, wind, or even dust.

If you can't go out, it would be nice if there was at least some entertainment.

All that can be seen is a dark sky with barely any stars, small cracks, and cubes of various sizes.

I too was once asleep in a cube, like them, without knowing or feeling anything.

But not anymore.

In this place where there is nothing and no one, I am just breathing in an ambiguous state where I cannot live or die.

Enduring something alone was something I was used to, but spending what felt like eternity in a dark place was gradually eating away at me.

Sometimes it felt like my lips and tongue were stuck together, unable to say anything.

I couldn't remember the last time I heard any sound other than my own footsteps, my breathing, and the rustle of my clothes.

I tried to come to my senses somehow, running, moving the cubes here and there with my telekinesis, and even singing, but all of them only allowed me to forget reality for a very short time.

As soon as I took a breath, a heavy silence began to choke me.

And when did the days of doing nothing start to increase, until I finally closed my eyes, lay down, and just existed?

'Ppajijik-'

An unfamiliar cracking sound was heard from somewhere nearby.

A noise like something breaking.

At first I thought, am I finally going crazy and hearing things, or is my skull cracked?

I had such absurd thoughts, but soon after, I heard a similar noise again.

'Ppajik-'

Finally, I opened my eyes and sat up for the first time in a long time to find the source of that unbearable noise.

I felt awkward about stepping on something with my soles, so I walked and floated low, following the direction of the sound.

The sound was coming from a cube a few steps away.

It was a fairly large cube, so large that I had to look up at it for quite some time.

At first glance, the cube looked different from others.

The surface was cracked here and there, and a soft green light shone beautifully through the cracks.

'Ppajijik-'

As I approached the cube out of curiosity, it created a new gap again.

Is something inside me waking up? Like the old me?

I looked at the cube with anticipation and excitement, then quietly placed my hand on it.

It's definitely cold, but it feels warm somewhere.

I felt like I could feel my heartbeat through my palm, so I placed both hands on the cube and put my ear to it.

Strangely, I leaned back comfortably, feeling a warm sensation as if I was hugging someone.

'Ppajik-'

The crack in the cube continued to grow, and I waited silently for it to wake up on its own.

Contrary to expectations, Cube kept dozing off and waking up for a long time, but he never woke up.

Maybe I just don't have enough strength to break out from within?

So I decided to open the cube myself.

Whatever or whoever comes out of it, it's at least better than being alone now.

Because at least there will be some change in this stuffy prison where nothing changes.

It was fortunate that my specialty was breaking and destroying things.

Now that I had made up my mind, without further hesitation, I placed both palms against the surface of the cube and sent out my telekinesis.

My power quickly spread through the gaps in the cube, but at first I couldn't break the shell and just hovered around the surface.

I don't think I'll ever be able to break the cube like this.

I concentrated my mind and gathered my strength as if pressing towards the center of the cube and released it.

Then, finally, the gap began to widen little by little.

To be honest, I started this without much confidence, but happily, it worked.

When I was feeling tired and wanted to take a break,

The cube began to vibrate and emit bright light.

Unable to keep my eyes open, I took my hand away and stepped back, covering my eyes. Finally, the cube exploded into hundreds of pieces.

As the light began to fade, and I lowered my hand, covering my pounding heart, I saw a person.

What appeared inside the cube was a man dressed entirely in black, with black hair and dark green eyes.

He was very tall, but his face somehow looked a little younger than mine.

He, who had been floating in the air, slowly opened his eyes, placed his feet on the floor, blinked a few times, and looked at his hands and feet as if they were unfamiliar.

Has there ever been a time when someone was so happy to see you?

I couldn't help but feel my body and mind tremble, so I clenched my fists and tried my best to calm down, but it didn't go as planned.

I forgot to breathe, my chest pounding, and only then was I able to let out a small sigh.

And then, the moment he sensed my presence and suddenly raised his head to meet me for the first time with an awkward smile on his face.

That's when it all started.

"hi."

Because he was none other than Yoo Ha-min, you.
