After nearly four years of silence as a group — broken only by solo albums, individual tours, and mandatory military service — BTS returned on March 20, 2026, with ARIRANG, their tenth studio album and their first new music as a full group since BE in 2020.
The album dropped globally on March 20, 2026, by Big Hit Music, marking BTS's first release since every member completed their military service. The title itself is steeped in meaning: BTS confirmed the album was named after a centuries-old Korean folk song — "Arirang" — long associated with emotions of connection, distance, and reunion, with their label stating the album "captures BTS' identity as a group that began in Korea."
The road to this moment was long. All seven members completed their service by mid-2025, and BTS shared that they had begun working together in July 2025. By November 1, Jimin confirmed through Weverse that the album was finished. In mid-2025, the group relocated to Los Angeles, where they shared a house for two months — the first time all seven had been in the same place since 2019. They kept a rigid schedule, with mornings for physical training and afternoons for studio work alongside rotating teams of collaborators.
Alongside longtime BTS collaborator Pdogg, the album features an all-star slate of writers and producers, including Kevin Parker of Tame Impala, Flume, JPEGMAFIA, Mike WiLL Made-It, Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic, El Guincho, and Teezo Touchdown, among others.
The album's 14 tracks span an extraordinary range. It opens with "Body to Body," which samples the traditional Korean folk song "Arirang." "Hooligan" features a chopped-up string arrangement with soaring vocals from V and Jimin. "Merry Go Round" is a psychedelic rock song, while "One More Night" carries a '90s house instrumental. "No. 29" is an actual field recording of the Bell of King Seongdeok — Korea's 29th national treasure.
ARIRANG is not just an album. It is BTS returning to their roots to take over the world all over again. And the numbers proved it.
