CU Captain Q Relaunched After 11 Years! A Complete Guide to Pre-order Methods and Pricing

'Captain Q' returns as an authentic rum after 11 years! Check out everything at a glance, from how to pre-order via the CU Pocket App, to the price of the treasure box, the 1.5-don pure silver coin event, and the Q&A on the best taste and drinking pairings.

1. Captain Q Relaunch: What's Different?

Did you know that the official name is actually 'Captain Q', not 'Captain Q'?

It was released in 1980 and became incredibly popular before being discontinued, but even after discontinuation, it boasted such immense popularity and memes that empty bottles were traded for over 100,000 won in the secondhand market.

The returning Captain Q has only maintained the familiar green bottle and design on the outside, but the contents have been completely upgraded.

Spirit Upgrade: Based on Caribbean rum, aged in bourbon casks followed by additional aging in PX sherry casks.

Taste and Aroma: It has changed from the harsh and rough taste of the past to a much smoother and sweeter flavor, making it perfect to enjoy as a highball even for those who don't drink much alcohol.

2. Captain Q Price and Limited Edition Treasure Chest Contents

The price of individual bottles is affordable, and the composition of this limited edition set is especially amazing, so it’s causing quite a stir as a collectible or gift item!

Captain Q Single (360ml): 9,900 won (Insane value for money under 10,000 won!)

Captain Q's Treasure Box Limited Edition: 19,800 won

🎁 Treasure Chest Package Contents
Captain Q 360ml 2 bottles

1 stainless steel cup

1 commemorative coin

The real highlight here is the commemorative coin! Out of the limited quantity, 1,980 sets reportedly contain a whopping 99.9% pure silver coin randomly. The small fun point is that I could be the lucky winner to snag a silver coin.

3. How to make a reservation purchase using the CU Pocket app

The response is so enthusiastic that you are likely to waste your time if you just show up at the store without preparation. I recommend using the Pocket CU app before visiting a convenience store!

Launch the Pocket CU app: Download the 'Pocket CU' app on your smartphone and log in.

Accessing the reservation purchase menu: From the app's main screen, enter the [Reservation Products] or [CU BAR / Alcohol Reservation] section.

Captain Q Search and Payment: Enter 'Captain Q' in the search bar, select the desired quantity, and proceed with payment.

💡 Pro Tip: Don't be too discouraged even if pre-order stock is temporarily sold out!

Individual bottles are being stocked sequentially at regular stores as well, so we recommend checking the real-time inventory of nearby stores using the [Find Store Stock] feature in the Pocket CU app before visiting.

4. Frequently Asked Questions (Q&A)

Q1. What is the alcohol content of Captain Q?
A1. The newly re-released Captain Q comes in a 360ml bottle with an alcohol content that is easy to enjoy. It features the sweet and smooth flavor characteristic of Caribbean rum, making it easy to drink.

Q2. Do you have any recommended or perfect combinations for a delicious drink?
A2. I highly recommend the legendary combination of 'McColl (barley drink) + Captain Q'! The sweet barley carbonation blends with the flavor of rum, allowing you to fully experience the retro vibe. You can also mix it with tonic water and lemon juice to make a clean and delicious highball.

Q3. Can I buy this at convenience stores or supermarkets other than CU?
A3. Yes! It is being sold sequentially not only at CU but also at major convenience stores such as 7-Eleven and large supermarkets. However, the limited edition Treasure Box is selling out quickly, so please check the stock on the app first!
