TIER 2: Ad-supported audio streaming
(equivalent to 3,750 transmissions per 1 album unit).
Note: Paid streaming accounts in trial period will be considered Tier 1.
1.250 setreaming = 1 album unit
Even now, BB200 will still not incorporate video transmissions into its measurement method. That's left to Hot100.
- BB200 ranks the most popular albums of the week based on multimetric consumption.
BB200 now includes:
- Sales of traditional albums
- Album sales equivalent to songs (10 songs sold = 1 album unit).
- Album sales equivalent to streaming.
Nielsen SoundScan's algorithm uses data from major paid streaming services—Spotify, Apple Music, and Google Play—and converts streaming data to album units. (BB200 only.)
That's why you sometimes read that they say Pure Sales or Digital Sales
According to updated album equivalent ratios:
1,250 streaming de audio premium (Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Prime Unlimited)
3,750 ad-supported streams (Soundcloud, Spotify)
3,750 video streams (YT, Vevo)
They are equal to one album unit.
With this new Billboard measurement system, the recorded music market would look like this:
- Paid streaming would increase from 40% to 53%.
- Streaming with advertising, from 32% to 28%.
- Scheduled audio streaming, from 29% to 19%.
This means that a YouTube video with 103 million views, using BB's new methodology, would be equivalent to 77 million views, weighted at 33% less than its streaming value.
Just to clarify, if you have Pandora Premium, your streams will count in full. Each stream will be worth 1 point. But if you have Pandora with ads (free), each stream will count as 0.50 points.
Pandora is internet radio. And it's considered scheduled audio streaming.

What does programmed audio mean?
They are non-interactive streaming services with limited functionality, meaning you can't choose a song or listen to a whole album from beginning to end, as is the case with Pandora and Slacker Radio.
