chance encounter

3.

Perhaps because he heard that there was no movement from my side, he turned around and walked over.

I feel a little flustered.

It wasn't until he pulled a car key out of his casual shorts pocket that I realized I had been leaning against his car the whole time.

I quickly apologized and stepped aside, but then the phone was answered.

My colleague's lazy voice came through the phone, echoing in the wide parking lot:
"Why am I making a phone call? Is there a problem with the document?"

I awkwardly covered the microphone and lowered my voice:
"No... I was on my way when it suddenly started raining..."

My colleague was also taken aback; the sound of an office chair rolling came through the receiver.
"Huh? Really?! I didn't even notice!"
"What should we do then? Should I come pick you up?"
"I can't leave... I'll go ask A if she's free!"

I held up my phone and waited, my rain-soaked hair slightly dry and curled up.
Listening to A's evasive tone on the phone, I felt a little frustrated. A and I didn't get along well, probably because we joined the company at the same time and competed for the same position during the interview. Although we were both eventually hired, A still seemed to dislike me.

Little A is out of the question.
It's better to rely on yourself than on others.
At worst, I'll just wait for the rain to let up a little, then grab my bag and rush out...
