Cried Hugging a Man First Met

1

"Today, I hugged a senior I had never met before and cried. I think I have to give up on the college life I dreamed of."
Actually, I have an older brother who’s three years older than me, but we’re not close. We barely talk, but this morning, we had a huge fight. Hearing such harsh words from someone I’m not even close to made me feel so miserable that I just wanted to disappear.
I had plenty of time before class, but I just left the house.
And then, I don’t know if my eyes were messed up or if I had completely lost my mind, but I saw someone sitting on a bench in the distance, and I mistook him for my boyfriend.
So... I hugged him.
I think I heard him gasp in surprise, but I didn’t care.
I just started swearing and crying.
Once I finally calmed down a little, I lifted my face from his chest and—
F***.
He was a complete stranger.
Yeah, logically speaking, my boyfriend wouldn’t have been there, but still, facing this horrific reality made my brain short-circuit.
I was screaming inside, "You absolute idiot..." when the guy spoke first.

"Uh... hey."
Holy s***. His voice was amazing.
I know I have a boyfriend, and this is wrong, but still—his voice was too good.
Anyway, he just said, "Uh..." and I was already panicking, bowing my head like crazy.
I finally understood the phrase "I wanted to crawl into a hole and disappear."

"Uh... um, I'm really sorry! I mistook you for someone else...!"
"Ah... are you okay?"
What kind of unexpected question was that?
I thought he’d be swearing at me, but instead, he was worried about me?
I guess it made sense, considering how I had been crying all over him.
Was he an angel? Or just an absolute pushover?
Either way, the fact that he didn’t seem to be mad was a relief.
But that didn’t make it any less embarrassing.
So I immediately said, "Y-yeah, I’m fine!" and ran to the bus stop.

And then—
The problem.

The guy came to the bus stop too.
I was worried he might have followed me to get back at me, but he just glanced at me once and then looked at his phone.
I figured it must have been a coincidence and desperately prayed for the bus to come quickly.
Then the bus arrived. I got on.
And then...
He got on too.

I was going crazy.
I even prayed that he’d get off quickly, but nope.
He stayed on until my stop.
I thought, Finally, it’s over! but then—
We got off at the same place.
I told myself it had to be another coincidence.
Maybe he just happened to be going the same way.
But then, he started walking toward campus.
My campus.
He walked through the gates.
I started freaking out. Is he a staff member? Just visiting? Surely, he’s not a professor... right?
No.
None of the above.
He was my senior in the same department.

I walked into my lecture hall, which was a required class for my dance major.
And there he was.
Sitting down.
The moment he sat, people started trying to sit next to him.
I thought, Wow, is he really that popular?
But then I realized—
That didn’t even matter.
The real problem was...
I, a freshman, had hugged a senior I had never met before and bawled my eyes out.

But seriously, I had never seen his face before.
I was just sitting there in a daze when I heard someone say:
"Yeah, today, [Name] did this and that..."
I had heard that name before.
A top student in the dance department.
Famous.
Super popular.
People always talked about him.
And I finally connected the dots.

The guy I had sobbed all over on our first meeting...
Was none other than the dance department's top student.

[Hey.]
F***.
We made eye contact.
And then—
He mouthed the word ‘Hey’ at me.
Smiling.
Like he had just read my mind.
What the f***.
Is he a mastermind or something?
I’m screwed.
Somebody save me.
