forever rain
Drop 1: When

I forgot how busy we could be during the rainy season.

There are children buying chips while waiting for the storm to end,

an employee sipping coffee first before rushing out -

just to maybe get on a bus to work before it pours heavier.

There are people forgetting to bring their umbrellas,

having no choice but to buy from our cheap selections.

Simple events seen through the eyes of a grocery store owner.

Me.

Busy days also meant trash would always pile up every few hours.

Unluckily, I have no overtime employees today to help take them out.

Shooting sharp glances towards the two cashiers to keep an eye on the store,

I decided to take them out myself.

The city's main dumpster is quite far from my abode.

I think my grandparents set up the store like that so I won't grow up lazy.

I need to walk through two waiting sheds before I'm able to reach it.

Walking back to my store with only an umbrella,

I feel so much lighter.

Quietly observing the dark clouds,

people either calmly walking or running with bags over their heads,

the sound of raindrops falling on top of the waiting shed...

On top of the waiting shed.

Smiling to myself, I remembered a story I heard at school about this one.

They say whenever it rains and you sit on an empty bench,

someone else who's chained to your fate will sit beside you.

A silly myth, but I couldn't help but try it out.

Sitting at the farthest corner, I looked ahead of me.

There were lots of cars passing by.

People, too.

I feel like I'm just wasting my time.

I'm turning 28 next year, why am I sitting here for a childhood myth of mine?

I readied to go back to the store,

that's when I felt someone suddenly sit beside me.

Hi!

Looking to my left, I saw a guy towering over me even when we're both seated.

Y/N
Hello! Waiting for the bus?

He smiled and his eyes became crescent moons, the man even had dimples.

Namjoon
No, just trying to talk to a lonely person.

Namjoon
How are you?

I raised my eyebrows at his statement.

Y/N
Trying to talk to who, now?
