Yujin scrambled out of the blanket and raced down the stairs barefoot. her heart nearly stopped.

there lying on the living room floor, was her father eyes wide open. blood soaking into the carpet from his mouth.

no wounds, no fight, Just - Gone.

her mother crumpled besides him, sobbing. yeji and Hyunjin, the older twin siblings were holding each other on the stair case wide eyed

and quiet, the only thing Yujin remembered was the cold, clinical voice of the coroner hours later:

"no trauma. no overdose. but his cells... they looked they'd melted from the inside".

Present day | college campus - 7:45 am

Yujin now 20, adjusted the strap of her backpack, exhaustion written all over her face. coffee in one hand, she trudged through the campus

with headphones in and a folder of final test results in her bag just two more finals and she'd be free. when her phone buzzed

hmm... probably Mom

she looked at her phone and she was right it was from mom.

don't forget to come home after class, Yeji's cooking and Hyunjin has threatened to help.

Yujin laughed out loud with a bright smile. as she replied.

Tell Hyunjin to stay out of the kitchen. I don't wanna graduate in the ER

she smiled as she Sent the message and continued her walk.

of the same virus that had killed thousands in secret over the past decade

including Yujins father

seonghwa's voice said in his ear piece.

they had only one chance. if that courier made it to the lab, the virus would be unleashed - this time with mind control properties.

it wasn't about killing anymore. it was about control.

her coffee exploded across the man's black coat. her phone clattered on the ground.

oh my God, I'm so-

their eye's met. his eye's sharp. calculating. dangerous. but not angry

she looked down at the coffee soaking into his clothes and mumbled again

I-uh, I'm really sorry

he muttered, voice low and intense, not at her but into a hidden mic

Back at home that night

dinner was loud and chaotic, yeji fussing about her work promotion, Hyunjin kept flipping noodles into people's bowls with artistic flair.

and their mom laughed in a way that hadn't been heard in years which was nice to hear after so long.

but Yujin felt off. that man.. the way he looked at her...

Hyunjin suddenly said

hey, did you hear about the military lockdown at the biotech district company this morning? rumor is someone tried to intercept a top secret
