VERBS IN PRESENT TENSE

VERB (PRESENT TENSE)

STRUCTURE: Verb Stem ㅂ니다 / 습니다

We learned in the previous episodes that the verb stem is the word left when we remove 다. To conjugate the verb into present tense, take the verb stem and attach ㅂ니다 if it ends in vowel and 습니다 if it ends in consonant.

EXAMPLE:

저는 갑니다.
I go.

HOW:
*가다 - to go
Take the verb stem - 가
It ends in vowel, therefore we have to add ㅂ니다.
가 ㅂ니다 = 갑니다

저는 김치를 먹습니다.
I eat kimchi.

HOW:
*먹다 - to eat
Take the verb stem - 먹
It ends in consonant, there we have to add 습니다.
먹 습니다 = 먹습니다

저는 한국어를 공부합니다.
I study Korean language.

HOW:
*공부하다 - to study
Take verb stem - 공부하
Ends in vowel, add ㅂ니다
공부하 ㅂ니다 = 공부합니다

VOCAB:
한국어 - Korean language
