Episode 1
First meeting.
(Yeoju's point of view)
"Excuse me!! Just a moment~!!"
I've been running and running since morning. It's my first day at work... and I'm late.
Still, I arrived a little faster thanks to running like crazy from home.
I stopped on the first floor to catch my breath for a moment.
'Huh... ha... huh... ha... what! There's only 1 minute left!!'
But when I saw one minute left, I started running again.
I needed to go to the 11th floor of this building. I had to take the elevator. Just as I was running toward it, it arrived at the first floor.
There was a man in that elevator.
I shouted at the man to wait.
"Excuse me~! Just a moment~!!"
But the man pressed the door close button without even listening.
"Ah, over there! Let's go together~!"
The elevator doors began to close, and I ran harder. I called out again, hoping the man hadn't heard me. This time, there was no response.
Just as the elevator doors were about to close completely,
I held the closing door with my hand.
"Ha... ha... ha... ha.."
I hurried into the elevator and caught my breath again.
I was on my way to work and I was so out of breath I thought I was going to die. I took a deep breath and only then looked at the man.
The man, wearing a black suit, stood before me, staring straight ahead. He didn't say a word or respond.
'I heard you clearly.. You closed the door even though you heard me calling..'
It's my first day at work and it's only morning... I'm already feeling unlucky.
'At first glance, you seem young... I guess you're about the same age as me.
That little bastard's son is so shameless... tsk tsk..'
While I was thinking that, the man got off on the 9th floor.
'The meeting place today is on the 11th floor?'
I was going to say something, but I didn't want to get into trouble, so I just left it at that.
I arrived at the 11th floor right away, and as soon as the door opened, I started running again.
'Life is a race.. just think of it that way..'
Arriving at the door, I took a deep breath. I felt like if I went in like this, something would be a bit embarrassing.
'Huh.. ha.. huh.. ha'
I took a few breaths and opened the door. My seat was the only empty space in the room.
"Now that we're all here, let's begin."
"yes"
I quietly went to my seat and sat down. I introduced myself as I usually do on first days. First, he gave me a brief introduction of the hospital.
Next was self-introduction.
"Hello. My name is Jeong Bo-ram and I am a graduate of Yonsei University. Please take care of me."
With that introduction, my residency began.
My name is Jeong Bo-ram. If I had to say something special about myself, it would be that I have nothing special.
I wasn't born with a silver spoon in my mouth, or born into a wealthy family or the second generation of a conglomerate.
She wasn't a tragic heroine from a drama who had physical or mental disabilities, was extremely poor, or was bullied.
I was born into a very ordinary family, lived with my parents, one a company employee and one a housewife, and went to school with my ordinary friends.
Moreover, even in school life, I was just a very ordinary member of a class, and I never had a tearful breakup with my first love or a reunion... I lived a life that was a bit too monotonous.
If someone were to ask me how I became a doctor while living in the same environment as everyone else, the answer would be the same.
'Brutal effort'
I can tell anyone who wants to be a doctor to just study like crazy.
During high school, I didn't even think I was alive. I just studied, and as a result, I graduated from Yonsei University Medical School.
I say this over and over again, but I'm ordinary.
Genius? I envy people like that.
Born with destiny? What the hell. If that's the case, why bother trying?
Luck? Oh... By the way, I'm someone who has never been happy playing random games like rock-paper-scissors, lottery, or ladder climbing.
It was all my hard work that allowed me to become a doctor.
I studied while others were sleeping, while others were eating, while others were playing after their exams, and even while taking bathroom breaks.
People saw me like that and said I was crazy about studying.
To me, those words were the greatest compliment.
Because working that hard was my goal.
So I got into Yonsei University, which is called Sky University, and it was full of kids who were true geniuses, kids with backgrounds, kids from wealthy families, and kids who were crazier than me.
Now that I'm a doctor, mixed with those kids, I still want to do well. I want to be recognized by others. That's why I worked even harder.
I desperately wanted to hear people call me a great doctor, so I lived busier than everyone else. That was how I achieved what I wanted.
Living that kind of life, people around me asked if it wasn't hard, but I loved the sweetness of what I gained from all that effort, even the difficult process of tasting that sweetness.
My life has always been like that. I just lived alone in this world.
Since it was my first day, I looked around the hospital and said hello to other people.
"This is the operating room, over there is the intensive care unit, and over there is the emergency room."
My legs hurt. Just give me a map.. You were so kind, it was a relief.
"This person is a dentist,"
"hello"
"nice to meet you."
"This person is an obstetrician and gynecologist."
"hello"
"Yes. Do your best."
"This person is an orthopedic surgeon."
"i look forward to"
"Yes, I'm working hard."
My back was aching from saying hello so many times.
As expected, it was a large hospital in Seoul. As the hospital was large, there were many doctors.
"and,"
There's more left...?
"This person is a neurosurgeon."
"Hello. My name is Daniel Kang."
"Hello..... ㅇ...."
Huh?! An elevator idiot!?!?
What, you're a specialist??? You're so young... but you're not a resident???
The man I cursed inwardly in the elevator
He was a neurosurgeon like me... I was a resident, and he was a specialist...
"Wow... amazing..."
The residents next to him reacted.
Huh? What? Why?
"Is it really Mr. Kang Daniel?"
"yes"
"Wow... incident..."
Why why why??
"Um... I think we all know each other, so should we introduce ourselves?"
The senior who had been introducing me for a while started talking.
"As for this person, he is one of the top five neurosurgeons in the country! He is the best doctor, boasting a 99% success rate in surgeries!"
"Hey... why are you introducing yourself like that..."
"Why? That's right. lol"
"Wow~~!!!!"
That elevator fight... yikes... No, Dr. Kang Daniel was embarrassed, and the rest of the people cheered. This guy??......
Sigh.... What will this hospital life be like...?
