About Jimin (Vote for him)

Journey to becoming a trainee

JIMIN: "When I was in elementary school, my dream kept changing. Comic books influenced me a lot. I wanted to be a cook, then, a police man... Since entering middle school, I wanted to become a singer."

JIMIN: "I started learning to dance when I was in Junior high (middle school). I started performing in front of others in elementary school at the talent show."

Jimin did well in school despite coming from an unpriviliged background. He was the class president for 9 years. He especially liked art, physical education, maths and chemistry.

He also participated in football club and billiard club activities during middle school.

Jimin learned Kendo for 8 years. Kendo is a modern Japanese martial art, which descended from swordsmanship (kenjutsu). He said, "When I was young, I liked the anime series 'One Piece' so much. I especially liked Zorro, who is one of the characters in anime. I liked him because he looked cool. I used to tell my mom, 'I will become the number one swordsman in the world!'"

Jimin also have a black belt in taekwondo. Taekwondo is learnt by most Koreans but only a few can achieve black belt.

Back in Busan, Jimin used to street dance, and participate in dance battles. He even had a dance battle with ab6ix Woojin and Kang Daniel.

During middle school, he attended Just Dance Academy and learned popping.
JIMIN: "I danced popping since 8th grade and gained interest in this kind of career after watching Rain sunbaenim's performances."

A user whose science teacher, who used to be Jimin's middle school homeroom teacher shared some of the stories that their teacher shared about Jimin.

Apparently, Jimin did so well that his dad had high hopes for him with his studies. So, he was shocked to discover that Jimin wanted to pursue a career in the Arts.

"Jimin's dad originally wanted him to be a government official, but in his 3rd year of middle school, Jimin suddenly wanted to attend an arts high school. With those grades!! Jimin's dad was so shocked, he would go to Jimin's school for consultations," the user shared.

Fortunately, with the help of his teacher, Jimin was able to persuade his dad.

"So Jimin and my teacher persuaded Jimin's dad. Also, my teacher would send Jimin out to dance competitions. According to the teacher, Jimin was full of sheer will and hard work, and he would've succeeded in whatever career who chose."

The user further went, "Also, before Jimin decided to go to an Arts High School, Jimin was really good at dancing. Our teacher saw him dancing one day, and told him he should attend an arts high school. If it wasn't for our teacher, who even persuaded Jimin's dad, Jimin might be working as a government official right now ㅋ."

Jimin didn't spend a lot of time preparing for the arts school. He was dancing popping when he decided to go to the arts school. He then learned modern dancing for a little over an year and was accepted at Busan High School of Arts. He was known to be the only dance major student who was accepted to the school while being the top of his class.

In an interview, his past teacher said, "Usually, the students only focus on their specialty between Korean traditional dance, ballet or contemporary dance, but Jimin always gave his best during all sessions. I believe he found his place as the main dancer of BTS thanks to the solid background he built in various fields."

Jimin wanted a job that allows him to stand on stage. Therefore, he began using Busan High School of Arts as a goal to work hard. He was already going to the dance school when he first started high school. However, he was worried about the class fees, so, he said he didn't need to go to the dance school. But the teacher told him that he didn't need to pay. They took really good care of him, so he continued to practice without disappointing or letting down the expectations they had for him, and learnt a lot from the teacher.

He never thought of quitting since then.

Usually dance majors are too tired after dancing, so they sleep during class at the back row of the classroom. However, Jimin sat in the front row, he listened to his teacher's lectures well and also talked a lot with his teacher. He is also nice and polite.. what can he not do?!!

Now this is a story when he was about in 2nd grade. There was a math exam and usually students in Arts school don't study math with effort. However, Jimin was the ONLY student among art/music/dance majors to get 100 in his math exam.

I have more stories that will drive you crazy. When the school went for a school trip, they held a talent show and Jimin was picked as one of the performers to represent his major.

Can you guess what he danced to...? He danced to TVXQ's Mirotic. OMG I'm dead... There were 5 people performing, and Jimin was the position at the right side, next to the center performer. It was so lit that a group of fans were made dedicated to those 5 people.

During Highschool, Jimin received a lot of overseas offers. He got a scholarship to china, and took part in a short training program, and learnt martial arts. He was the only freshman to receive this scholarship (normally only upper graders could attend).

In 2012 Spring, when Jimin was still in Highschool, his middle school dance teacher contacted him and suggested that he join an entertainment company.

However, his homeroom teacher, Mr. Lee, was against it at first.

"To be honest," he said. "I opposed at first because that job, being an idol, it's easy to dream about, but definitely not easy to succeed."

Before Jimin's audition with BigHit Entertainment, Mr. Lee gave him an ultimate choice; to be an idol or a dancer.

"So when he told me he's taking an audition for producer Bang Si Hyuk, I told Jimin this is his last chance. After this audition, I told him you have to choose your path on becoming an idol or a modern dancer. But on that day, he passed the audition."

"As far as I know, thousands of people took that audition, but Jimin was the only one who passed."
