#Short Story 2

"Oh my... why isn't the air conditioner working?"

The seemingly endless winter passed, and summer arrived in an instant. For a broke college student living alone, turning on the air conditioner in the slightest heat was a luxury, and so Hye-young endured the heat. And today, after mid-August and the unbearable height of summer, Hye-young finally decided to turn on the air conditioner. She mustered up her resolve and pressed the button, but the air conditioner remained motionless. Hye-young repeatedly hit the button. Still, the air conditioner showed no sign of working, and, feeling threatened that she might swelter to death, she called the customer service center number written in small letters on the back of the air conditioner.

"Oh, yes. 2 p.m.? Okay, I understand."

He'd be coming at 2 PM on Sunday. So, from now on, I'd have to endure this scorching heat for another day. Hye-young buried her face deep in the refrigerator to cool off. This is killing me, really.

Boooo ...

After 24 hours of hell, Hye-young awoke from a deep sleep to the sound of a vibration ringing out from the morning. It was a different number from the one she'd called the day before.

"1pm? Okay, I understand! Okay, okay!"

Even just being able to turn on the air conditioner an hour earlier felt good to Hye-young, who was drenched in sweat from the heat. She opened the window to ventilate the room and washed herself with cold water. Time passed faster than she'd expected. The clock was already nearing one, and Hye-young, excited, ran to her room and quickly changed clothes.

Ding dong-

A moment later, the repairman arrived to fix the air conditioner. Hye-young ran to the front door and greeted him warmly. The repairman, smiling warmly, began to work on the air conditioner. Hye-young smiled and said she'd made coffee for him, acknowledging his hard work on this hot day.

Boooo ...

As I was taking out ice to make a cool iced coffee, Hyeyoung's phone rang again.

"hello?"

- "Oh, yes. Are you customer Yoo Hye-young?"

"Yes, but?"

- "I'm the person who was supposed to have the air conditioner repaired at 2:00 PM today.
I just wanted to call because I think I'll be about 30 minutes late. Is that a good time for you?"

"yes···?"

Hye-young dropped her phone with a thud. And behind her, only a dark shadow loomed.
