Jun always said that he had to have an unbreakable shell, one that would deceive everyone, a permanent disguise; it was the only way to stay alive in a world where monster hunters ruled.
My friendship with Chanyeol slowly froze. Jun said Chanyeol was a huge threat and that I had to get rid of him. I couldn't allow that; after all, he was my best friend. I didn't want to sacrifice the present for a future that might never come.
Jun sent his monsters very often, which caused Chanyeol to have nightmares more frequently; dark circles under his eyes soon appeared. When I stayed with him, I could see him fall asleep with his eyes open; the monsters didn't come near him as much, thinking he was still awake.
I took a breather when the Parks returned to Seoul, but after a few months I stopped contacting Chanyeol. Jun was planning to eliminate him. So I decided to watch over him from the shadows. I put up a barrier of monsters to prevent Jun from tracking him.
I hadn't planned on being with him again... But fate brought him back into my life. And this time, against all odds, Chanyeol became what I feared most.
