Boom, boom-
In a slightly looser atmosphere
When we were joking around with each other
The sound of thunder echoed throughout the house.
Of course, I was surprised, but the first thing that caught my eye was Yeonjun, who had his eyes tightly shut and his hands were still shaking.
"What, are you afraid of thunder?"
It was said half-jokingly, but it seemed like he wasn't in the mood for joking. I approached him to examine his complexion and cautiously placed a hand on his cheek. It was cold. His already pale skin looked even paler, and not just because the lights were off.
He didn't answer, but slowly opened his eyes and stared at me.
It's strange. I'm reflected in those slightly trembling eyes. I keep licking my dry lips and looking down at my hand.
"..I'm sad."
"What?" he said, his voice almost hoarse. I couldn't quite hear what he was saying, so I asked again. Then he slowly took my hand, which was now resting on his cheek, and said.
"It's scary. Just stay like this for a moment..."
He looks at me, burying his face in my hand that's resting on his cheek again. His eyes are begging me not to leave. Droplets of water drip from his hair. A rhythmic beating, unidentifiable as his own or mine, grows louder. What is this? This is the first time I've seen a face this close, but I can't tear my gaze away, as if possessed by something. If this continues...
"Ha, Grandma! I'm worried about you. I guess I should go out."
My eyes snapped open. Yes, Grandma. Even if you were out looking for tools, it's a bit odd that you haven't come home at this hour. Could something have happened? It's raining hard outside. What if you fell? With all these thoughts, the excitement I'd felt just moments ago was turning into worry and anxiety.
It's raining heavily outside.
He caught me as I was about to leave. To be exact, he grabbed my sleeve. His bangs were drooping, so I couldn't see his expression clearly.
"It's okay, I'll be right back. You just dry your hair here. Don't bother following me. You'll catch a cold."
I tried to soothe you, as if I were a puppy, and forced a bitter smile. Then, my grip loosened, and the child still had its head down. "I'm just going out for a bit, what's the big deal?" I patted the child's shoulder a few times, grabbed an extra umbrella just in case, and headed outside. I didn't turn around to see the child's expression.
"I'll be back."
