Park Sung-ho

It's a short story

"It's him again?"

"..Are you here?"

Yeoju slid her phone down onto the table. She watched Park Sungho's expression harden in real time, glancing at him warily. She sat down across the table from him, his expression displeased. Seongho, seemingly unwilling to make eye contact with Yeoju, simply sipped his iced Americano. His hurt feelings were already evident. Kim Yeoju also vaguely knew why Park Sungho was acting this way. That he was the one who started it all.

The guy they were talking about was Han Dong-min, Kim Yeo-ju's male friend. The two of them, who Yeo-ju calls her friend and is in the same class, often hanging out together, began to bother Park Sung-ho.

At first, I thought Park Sung-ho was just another male friend, but I gradually sensed a strange discomfort within him. Hanging out together? At first, I understood since they were classmates. He knew Kim Yeo-joo better than I did? Yeah, I figured that was because they knew each other before I did. Seeking him out every time there was an argument? Maybe he could give me advice as a male friend...

however,

The name Han Dong-min, which kept coming up between us, had begun to irritate Park Sung-ho.

Tiring.-

"I think I got a text?

"..Oh, it's okay"

Ring. Ring.

Again, a text message sounded out of nowhere on Yeoju's phone. Park Sung-ho pretended not to notice the vibration, which rang across the table. He had already given up.

"It seems urgent."

"..Yeah"

I checked my phone, which I had covered with Park Sung-ho's cold gaze. As expected, it was a text from Han Dong-min. It was Han Dong-min's sabotage, sending a series of text messages when Kim Yeo-ju, who had been texting me just a moment ago, became quiet.

     |_ Are you alive or dead?

      |_ What did he say again??

      |_ I told you to push forward a bit

       |_ Since you gave in like that, I won't act easy;

-

“What did he say?”

Park Sung-ho asked, as if he already knew that the owner of the text was Han Dong-min.

"It's nothing.."

Kim Yeo-ju held her tongue. She absolutely could not show the text message record in which she had just passionately expressed her resentment toward Park Sung-ho. Starting with, "What's he doing, meddling?" would only further irritate Park Sung-ho.

"...okay"

Park Sung-ho's tone was already fading, like smoke from a extinguished candle. Yeo-ju, intent on changing the subject, spoke first.

"Shall we watch a movie today? Or... a board game cafe?"

"Okay, let's talk."

From Park Sung-ho's expression, I could already guess what would happen next. I'd rather not contact him. That was Park Sung-ho's perspective.

"...but"

Kim Yeo-ju kept defending Han Dong-min. She hoped Park Sung-ho would understand, as they were friends. That should only be the first or second time.

"Do you remember our fight?"

Park Sung-ho spoke as if he was letting out a sigh. "Yes. In fact, it was the first time I'd seen Park Sung-ho since our fight last week. The reason for the fight might have been Han Dong-min.

It was the day of their anniversary, and something urgent came up for Seong-ho, so their plans were canceled. Yeo-ju, who had been looking forward to their anniversary, couldn't help but feel disappointed, being left alone. That's how the incident ignited, as Yeo-ju went to see Han Dong-min.

An opportunity arose for Han Dong-min.

There's no way the stubborn Han Dong-min would turn down this opportunity.

The day after the anniversary, Han Dong-min saw Park Sung-ho's ID in the tag for the after-party of the Inbyeol club and scolded Kim Yeo-ju sharply. He criticized her for being a guy who always showed up for everything except her anniversary. Yeo-ju fell for Han Dong-min's words again. She seemed to be overcome with resentment. Seeing Kim Yeo-ju's melancholy, Han Dong-min must have tried to comfort her by saying that the two of them didn't get along to begin with. Anyway, that's not it.

As things turned out, Han Dong-min's sabotage led to a heated argument between the two. The typical couple's argument dragged on for quite some time: "There's no time to celebrate anniversaries, so your own work comes first." The tension hadn't even fully resolved yet. The revelation that Han Dong-min was involved in the whole affair ignited Park Sung-ho's ire.

And today, Park Sung-ho called Yeo-ju out first, saying they should talk. Ha, but even while he was calling her out, Kim Yeo-ju couldn't let go of Han Dong-min's text. The tendons in my brain were about to burst. I don't know how far he's been fooled. You can't just ignore it.

"I'm sorry I missed your anniversary. So, I wish you'd stop contacting him."

"...I'm sorry I got angry for no reason..."

Kim Yeo-ju's answer cannot say that she will not contact Han Dong-min. Park Seong-ho must be quite frustrated as well.

"...under"

Park Sung-ho takes a deep breath and spits out the words.

"Is it him or me?"

Even the question was funny. Is your boyfriend more important or your male friend? Isn't it natural for most people to choose their boyfriend? It's the same question as, "Should I date him or me?" It's a humiliating question. Park Sung-ho felt like asking this question was hurting his pride. It felt like he was admitting his shortcomings as a boyfriend. Really... do you really think so?

"...Of course, oppa!"

The face of the female protagonist who took Park Sung-ho's side, saying that he would spit it out after hesitating, was uncertain.

"...and Dongmin is just a friend, how is he like oppa,,"

"..."

How much do you trust that kid? A friend? Are you still clinging to that shallow friend title? Do you really consider him a friend? Or at least, does he think so?

"Even if it's a friend, it's not a good look to keep contacting a girl who has a boyfriend."

"..."

"I don't like the fact that we're fighting over just one person."

"...Dongmin is just,,"

"Look, you're making excuses for that kid again," Park Sung-ho said, his gaze fixed on Kim Yeo-ju's. Then, his temper waning, he spoke calmly.

"I wish he wouldn't interfere in our relationship anymore. I'm dating you. Who are you dating?"

"...Oppa"

Even after hearing the answer, I still couldn't get a definitive answer from Yeoju. And then, just then, Yeoju's phone started ringing.

Jiing..-

Jiing..-

Since I didn't get a text reply, I called. He's persistent. Really.

Park Sung-ho responds in a cold voice to the female lead who, after seeing the caller's text, closes her phone and frowns at him.

"Take it"

"..."

I couldn't bring myself to answer Han Dong-min's call in front of Park Sung-ho. I hung my head and waited for the phone to stop ringing. And then, right after the ringtone, Dong-min's text message arrived.

       |_ What's going on?

Call me, I'll be there

"Are we still friends?"

"..."

The woman's lips, tightly shut, seemed as if they wouldn't open. Well, she had insisted on being her friend, but it was ridiculous that she was turning away now... It was hard to deny her own wrongdoing. After all, she had used Han Dong-min under the pretense of being her friend. After a long moment of silence, the cold voice pushed her forward.

"..."

"Don't pretend you didn't hear me."

Actually, I think it would be okay to get scolded by Park Sung-ho...
