“She will be discharged today, are you really not coming?” Kaiden sent me a text..
“Just give my regards, I don’t think I can come. Tell her I am sorry.”
After sending that message to him, I spend my day in my place since it’s Saturday and I don’t have anything to do today.
I started packing my things since I only have days left before going back to London, 4 day from now and it will be our graduation day. The day that everyone of us is looking forward to.
I felt hungry after packing my things and didn’t even notice the time. It’s already quarter to 9 pm and maybe that is the reason why I feel a bit sleepy already.While taking a shower to freshen up, I heard the doorbell that keeps on ringing.
Who is that at this hour? I decided to finish my shower and get dressed before heading to my front door and opening it. The person outside is the person that I am longing to see but I feel nervous seeing her.
“May I come in?” She ask
I open the door for her to get inside and follow her after. She sits on the sofa and smiles at me.
“Rainne….”
“I got discharged today..”
“I know..but what are you doing here?” I sat next to her and tried my best to avoid her eyes.
“I came because you don’t want to see me..” She pouts that make my heart flutter.
“It’s not like that…”
She gets her phone and texts someone.. “I asked Kai to drive me here and I texted him that you will send me home..”
I took a deep breath before looking at her. “I’m sorry!”
“Why?”
“Because …. “
“Is there a problem?”
I shake my head for disapproval “I need to meet someone and do some thinking..”
“A friend? You should have introduced us, you know.”
“It’s not like that, things with her is something that is complicated..”
“I’m here to listen..is it something that I shouldn’t know?”
I hold her hand and squeeze it gently. “It’s my ..it’s a family friend that I made a promise..but then I couldn’t keep my promise to them.”
She smiles at me and caress my cheek “A valid reason for not fulfilling one's promise is acceptable.. I know that you have your valid reason and that they can accept it..just be honest with them.”
I looked at her and smiled before nodding. “I’m sorry for not seeing you while you're in the hospital..”
“It’s okay.. Now that I know that you’re okay, I’m good.”
“I know I made a mistake..and I’m sorry.”
“If you consider your action as a mistake, what more if you did worse? I said it’s fine..”
“What if I lied to you? Can you forgive me?” I ask..Wishing that she will be able to forgive me.
“I know that if you're going to lie to me..it’s because you don’t want to hurt me..”
I pat her head gently and smile at her “Stop being so sweet to me.. I might end up changing my mind about visiting my family in London..”
She pouts and smiles “Then I’ll be a bitch until our graduation..” We both laugh and we’re interrupted because of the doorbell.
“Who is it again in this hour?..Wait.” I stood up and checked who’s ringing my door.To my surprise, I saw my Dad standing outside with a huge smile on his face the moment he saw me.
He hugged me and I did the same, he looked so happy to see me after a long time.
“My son really grows so independent.. I’m proud of you son.”
“And you surprised me..”I pulled myself from him and saw him grin at me.
“Why? Are you supposed to meet a girl here?” Then he laughs
“Dad? No..I mean, you should have called me beforehand.”
“What’s the surprise there? I am here to surprise you because I know that in just a few days, my son will officially graduate.”
“Thank you for coming Dad..I’m happy to see you, I hope Mom is here too.”
“Your Mom is beyond proud of you...and who knows if she’s going to surprise you too.” We both laugh “May I come in?” He asks
I was stunned for a moment then nodded at him “ Of course..but Dad..Ahmmmmm” I was massaging my nape because I don’t know how to explain to him why Rainne is here at this hour.
“Why? You have a visitor?”
“Remember the girl that...I told you over the phone?” I ask him for confirmation..
“Yes.. what about her? Don’t tell…”
“SHe’s here.. Dad please just act normal and don’t freak her out..” My Dad laughed and put his arm on my shoulder before leading me inside.
As soon as he saw Rainne, I saw how he smiled.
“Good evening!” He greeted Rainne and Rainne stood up and smiled at my Dad.
“Good evening, Sir.” She looks puzzled by who this man is greeting her.
“Rainne meet my Dad..Dad this is Rainne.”
She covers her mouth in shock before offering her hand. “It’s nice meeting you, Sir.”
Instead of shaking her hand my Dad gives her a tap on her head and smiles back “It’s nice to finally meet the girl who turns my son into a lover boy..” They both laugh and I was there glaring at Dad. “Just call me Uncle Al.”
“The pleasure is mine, Uncle Al…”
“C’mon c’mon let’s sit. You two are already tall to gain more height by standing.” He jokes that made us all laugh.
Me and Rainne sit on the long sofa and my Dad is on the single chair.
“So...how is my son here Rainne? Is he good to you or is he an asshole?” He ask
“Ohhh..Well..”
“Dad….”
“I just want to know..Your story is different from the perspective of the people you are with. “
“Your son is such a lovely guy.. I’m sure that what he tells you is just the same with my perspective and with our friends' perspectives… You did well in raising a good son, Uncle.”
I looked at her and unconsciously pout a little and made my Dad smile from ear to ear.
“What have you done to my son? Is he really my son?” We all laugh in his jokes
“Dad.. I have been such a good boy ever since.” I defend myself but still smiling
“Yah, you are..but who is that guy who just pouts and makes himself look so cute? He’s not my son…” He continuously joke around
“Alright enough of picking on me… “
“Now I know where he gets his sense of humor..” Rainne says.. “He really just likes you, Uncle..”
“Oh well. I am more handsome than him..” And we all laugh again
“I do agree.”
I just laughed at them .. I am so happy seeing my Dad and Rainne enjoying each other’s company.
“Okay okay.. Since your girlfriend is here, I’m going to give you two some privacy..”
“I’m just going to send her home..”
“Why? No need.. Besides look at the time Axel, just stay the night Rainne.”
“But Uncle…”
“Don’t worry..I’ve been there and I trust my son and you.”
She just smiles at Dad
He stood up and roamed around “What are you looking at?” I asks
“My room to stay? I’ll see you two tomorrow.. Goodnight love birds.” he headed to my spare room where Rainne and the others used to stay.
“Sorry about that..” I smiled at her awkwardly.
“Your Dad has more of a sense of humor than you…” She laughs while still sitting on the sofa.. I join her
“Well he’s my Dad..So I mean..I really want to send you home tonight but you know…”
“It’s okay..I can stay the night..”
“Are you sure? I mean..Kai and Madi are not here..”
“I’m your girlfriend right?” She asks but teases me..
“Oh my god!!!! I’m sorry about that…”
“It’s fine..really.”
I nodded while still looking at her.. “You sleep on my bed and I’ll sleep on the couch there.”
“But that’s your bed..”
“And I’m a gentleman..so you take the bed, I take the couch.”
“Okay then..Let’s go?”
I lead her inside my room.. She sits on my bed while I am getting a blanket for me and a pillow.
“Do you need anything?”
“Nah.. I’m good but I’m not yet sleepy.”
“What do you want to do?”
“Let’s watch some netflix..”
“Okay.. what do you want to watch?”
“Ahmmmm..wait. This let’s watch ````To all the boys.”
“Sure.. I’ll just get some snacks.” I headed to the kitchen to get some snacks and drinks. I prepared a freshly squeezed orange juice for Rainne and 2 cans of beer for me.
“Here..”
“Thank you..I’ll play it now.”
I cannot focus on the movie that we are watching because we are just inches apart.. We are watching on the bed while she is being so into the movie. She looks so beautiful that all her reactions towards the movie is a turn on to me.. How I wish that she is really my girlfriend.
“Want to watch the season? 2” I ask her and the smile on her face is still on.
“Can we? Are you not sleepy yet?”
“Let’s sleep after season 2..”
“Okay..” Then she plays the next season.
Honestly speaking, I’m a bit tired because of the packing that I did a while ago and it makes me sleepy.
I was awakened by my phone ringing.. I am still half awake and did not realize that Rainne is beside me sleeping. I almost jumped when I saw her sleeping next to me but was able to calm myself while staring at her beauty. She looks so innocent while sleeping, then I was interrupted when my phone rings again. I move out from the bed and grab my phone on the side table.. It’s Kaiden.
“When…”
“Dude, where are you? Are you with Rainne?.....Aunt Rose is in her hysterical mode now.”
I clear my throat before answering all his questions.. “She’s with me…”
“Okay.. at least…. Wait……. Rainne is with you? ….You spend the night alone?”
“Axel..” Rainne is still half asleep while calling my name..
“Is that Rainne? I need an explanation….you two.”
“Okay...Chill, I’ll explain everything later..okay?”
“You better.. And make that brat call Aunt Rose before she calls the police…”
“Okay..okay..See you later”
“Who’s that?”
“Kai..Good morning!” I smiled at her and she positioned herself in a more comfortable look.
“Good morning..He nags you?”
“Nope..Why don’t you give Aunt Rose a call first, I bet she’s worried about you.”
“I will.. I’ll just freshen up. “
“Okay.. Ahm. I’ll use the bathroom outside, just pick any shirt of mine if you want to change...Okay?”
“Thank you…”
I headed outside to give her some privacy.. And to my surprise I saw my Dad leaning on the door.
“Dad?”
“Well.. I’m about to knock to tell you two that breakfast is ready.”
“Dad…?”
“Okay okay..I’m just curious, it’s the first time that you allow a girl to sleep in your room.. You know, I want to get to know her more.”
“If you’re like this, what more if it’s Mom..I’ll just take a shower.”
I headed to the bathroom and took a shower..
While Axel is inside the shower..
“I’ll be home later before lunch.. Is Mom and Dad there?” Rainne ask her Nanny Rose
“Your Dad went out early in the morning and your Mom is already looking for you………………. Young Miss, I don’t know what to say to your Mom if she finds out that you’re not inside your room..”
“Okay...just pretend that I want to have my breakfast in my room..like I’m still sleepy.. I’ll be there as soon as possible..I’ll text you..okay?”
“Make it quick young Miss..See you later..” Rainne hangs up the phone and fixes herself..
She found a white oversized t-shirt of Axel and wore it, then tied it at the back to make it a little short. Once dobe, she went outside and saw Axel’s Dad in the kitchen..
“Good Morning, Uncle Al.”
“Good morning..my daughter in law..”
Rainne’s blushed a lot that makes Axel Dad grin at her..
“Come..sit here. Axel is still inside the bathroom but I’m sure he will be done soon.”
Rinne sits on the other side of the table. “You’re here for Ax graduation?” She ask
“Of course.. I don’t want to miss his graduation day..and to meet the girl that makes my son in love..”
There I showed up with my hair that is still wet..
“Stop teasing Rainne.. Dad.” I walk next to Rainne and smile at her. “I’ll get you some fresh juice.. Wait.” I walk to the kitchen counter and get some fresh orange and put it into a squeezing machine to extract the juice..Once done I handed the glass of orange juice to Rainne..
“Very sweet..”
I sit next to Rainne and put an egg, toast bread and fresh apple on her plate..
“Let’s eat..thanks for the food.”
“Thanks for the food.” Rainne says and smiles at my Dad and me.
My Dads’ smile never fades away throughout the whole breakfast..He really likes Rainne and he knows that I am really fond of his girl too..
“You too really look good together.. I hope I can meet your parents too.” My Dad says that makes Rainne uncomfortable and I know why..
“Dad…”
“What? Okay okay.. You go there. I’ll do the dishes..Later let’s have lunch in a restaurant with your other friends..”
“Ahmm….Actually Uncle, I really need to go home now..I love to join you at lunch but I have an important matter to attend to..”
“Is that so? Well then maybe next time.. “
“Thank you for the breakfast and it’s nice meeting you Uncle..” My Dad gave her a hug and a peck on her cheek. “Take care..and it’s nice meeting you too.”
“I’ll drive her home..see you later Dad..”
“Take care okay?”
“Okay..”
While on our way to her place..she explains to me her plan on how to get inside their house without being caught..I am against it at first but then what can I do if she insists..
Once where in the back area of their house near a stream.. She texted Aunt Rose immediately, so that she can pick her up.. We waited there and Aunt Rose finally with us..she gives us both a scolding, we just accept it since we both know that it’s our fault.
“Thank you..I’ll call you later and make sure to pick it up okay?” She told me..
“I will..go now..” I give her a kiss on her forehead and she smiles at me.
She headed to the small sidewalk together with Aunt Rose that leads to their house.. I just hope that they will not get caught, this will just worsen the situation..Thinking that her Mom doesn’t like me and I don’t know how am I going to explain this to my Dad who obviously likes Rainne so much.
Rainne's POV
We successfully entered the house without noticing my Mom since she’s inside the study room.. When I’m inside my room, I change my underwear, pants into shorts and stick with Axel’s t-shirt..
“Why did you do that, young Miss? ...you know that you just came from the hospital…...and….”
I hold her hand and smile at her..”Sorry for worrying you.. But I’m okay and happy..”
She combs my hair with her hand and caresses my cheek “You know that your Mom doesn’t like Axel… and if she finds out that you’re sneaking at night just...you know...they will be more disappointed..”
“I just wanted to clear things with him last night..”
“But did you ever think about his situation?”
“WHat do you mean?
“He may look okay with everything but I know that he’s having a hard time with your Mom.. “
“I know that.. I don’t get Mom to be honest..there’s no point in hating Axel when in fact he does nothing wrong with me..”
“I know that Axel is a good man..but I also know your Mom.. She will never go against anything or anyone if there’s no valid reason..It’s just that I don’t know that reason..”
“Nanny…..can I ask a favor?”
“Don’t you dare sneak out again…”
“No...find out the reason why.. Help me find out her reason for hating Axel..”
“I wi;; try my best Young Miss but then you know your Mom..She’s a very secretive person but I’ll try..Now go outside your room and greet your Mom..”
“Okay okay.. Thank you again Nanny.” I hugged her before heading outside to look for Mom..
My Mom is inside the study room and busy reading a book.. I gave her a kiss on her cheek before sitting next to her. She caresses my cheek and smiled at me before putting down the book on the table.
“You seem to have a good sleep..Aren’t you hungry?”
“Nanny serve me late breakfast.. Where’s Dad?”
“A breakfast meeting some politicians.. Anyway he wants to meet us in your favorite restaurant, let’s grab some lunch there..”
“Sure..Is Dad going to enter politics?”
She smiles at me.. “No..your Dad don’t want that kind of life, why?”
“Nothing.. I don’t want that life either..”
She keeps on smiling at me but there’s something odd with her smile..My Mom looks sad even if she’s smiling.
“Are you happy?” She ask me..
“What?”
“I mean, are you really happy without gavin in your life?” She holds my hand and caresses it..
“Mom?”
“I just want to know..”
I gave her a genuine smile.. “I wanted to be happy.. That’s why I ended my relationship with him..At first it’s hard because my life only revolves around him.. .and I kept on holding on to what we used to have.. .. but then I realized that we are not meant to be.. .. We missed so much in our life and I am to blame for that.. ..”
“Rainne..?”
“I know you love him Mom and I used to, but it’s different now.. Gavin will always be my first love.”
“Is it becasue of Axel?”
“Nothing did nothing wrong.. He just love me even if there’s no assurance that I will love him back.. He just stayed by my side without expecting anything in return.. That’s Axel, Mom.”
She smiles at me.. “If I say that you and Axel are not possible? What will you do?”
“Not possible? But why? Give him a chance ..”
“I just don’t want you to get hurt..”
“But Mom…”
She stood up “There are things that cannot be easily explained.. Just don’t let your guard down.” Then she heade outside and I am left alone wondering of what she meant by what she syas.
What are you hiding Mom? Why do you hate Axel? Nanny Rose is right, Mom never hates or disagreed with someone or anything if there’s no valid reason, but what is that reason? I don’t see any reason for her to hate Axel..
My Mom and Dad are the most supportive parents that even if her condition is not suitable for the career that she wants to pursue, they still support her because that is what makes her happy. When I decided to marry Gavin in the future, they supported me too. There’s nothing that I want that they did not give..Not because I am a spoiled brat but because they are afraid of not doing anything that they can while I’m still with them.. They are afraid that I don’t have enough time with them, that is why I’m confused why Mom is against Axel if she knows that I'm happy with him.
Time had passed, my family had our lunch in my favorite restaurant and we also decided to visit the underwater park. I am so happy that I am with my Daddy and Mommy and they are doing their best with me, just like today..It seems like I returned to my childhood where my family always had our lunch outside, visited different parks, had picnics and many more.. We always do that during weekends since my parents are in New York, they are busy but they always made time for me..
Never in my life have I felt unwanted or neglected by my parents..because I am well loved by them. I may have a limited time on earth but I know that I already did a lot..Those people around me will have a lot of stories to tell already with other people about me..
I am not afraid to die..I always said tha to Kaiden and Madi because everyone will end up dying too, it’s just that I will go early.. And everytime I said that, they would just frown and give me rolling eyes.
When we’re finally home at around 4 in the afternoon, I ask permission with Mom and Dad if I am allowed to go out tonight with my friends but they insisted, No. They are still worried about me since I just got discharged from the hospital yesterday. Then they suggested asking my friends to come over for dinner and if they want to stay the night it’s fine too.
I immediately called and sent them three messages to stay the night since my parents allowed them to.
I helped Nanny Rose in the kitchen. I always stay in the kitchen with Nanny Rose everytime she cooks. I want to learn how to cook delicious dishes just like her.
At around 5 my friends already arrived and that’s the time when I left Nanny and stayed with them in the pool area.
“Where’s Aunt Jen?” Madi asks
“They’ll be here soon..so what do you plan to do tonight?”
“I cannot stay the night..” Axel says with an apologetic face
“Why? C’mon Axel it would be fun if we’re complete..” Madi says while giving Axel a puppy's eyes.
“I know..but Dad is at my place..”
“Your Dad?” Madi asks again with confusion.
“It’s okay..I know you missed the company of your Dad..”
He nodded and smiled at Rainne “He says hi..”
“You meet his Dad? When and how?” Madi move to my side and eloped his arm to mine
Kaiden pulls Madi and strokes her hair. “She stayed the night yesterday with Axel..” Kaidden whispers to Madi’s ears that she made her gaze at me with a deadly look.
“Let me explain okay..? Just chill..”
“Explain it now..”
“Explain what?” My Mom and Dad approach us and they both give my friends a warm hug.
I clear my throat and look at Madi giving her a warning to shut her mouth.
“Explain.. Explain..yah, explain why she wants us to stay the night.”
We all fake our laugh and Madi moved to my side. “It’s a surprise for us that Rainne wants us to stay the night…. That’s why I am asking her to explain..yeah that's it.”
“Oh well.. You know Rainne she always wants to be around you guys..besides your graduation is coming near..meaning you will be having your own life starting that day..” My dad says
“Uncle.. That made me realize that I am not a baby anymore..” We all laugh but what Dad says is a realization for us..
“You will be forever a baby to your parents Madi..same goes with all of you.. Any way we’ll go back inside and Rose will call you if the dinner is ready.. Enjoy yourselves..”
“Yes, Uncle Jin..”
Then my parents heade inside the house.. And when it’s just us again Madi looks at me with a question in her..
I sat on the pool side and they all followed.. Axel just smiles at me and gives me support by patting my head before sitting next to Kai..
“So?”
“Don’t be too impatient, Mads.. “
“I visited Axel last night because… you know that he didn’t pay me a visit after the first day until I am discharged…”
“You missed him so much that you risked your health?” She looks at Axel giving him a warning..
“No...I mean it’s not like that.. I am wondering why that’s why I visited him last night and….be quiet because my parents doesn’t have any idea that I did not go home last night..”
“My God Rainne Eliza….are you out of your mind? You just got discharged yesterday from the hospital… hospital and not a playground.. You almost …” Madi burst into tears remembering the day when she was sent to hospital again.. I hugged her and caressed her back.
“Madi. sorry.. I know you are worried about…” She pulls from my hug and face Axel
“And you?” She gives Axel a glare. “I thought you love Rainne? Why didn’t you pay her a visit? You know that..”
“Madi…” Kaiden gives Madi a warning to make him stop. “I know and I know you know that Axel has a reason..would you mind listen to him first?”
