27 : Autumn Morning

Early morning,
the songs of little birds drift over.
Then, as always,
I wake up with regret.

From one small window
the sunlight pours in dazzlingly.
Through the open window the chill makes me feel like sneezing.

Rubbing my eyes, I look outside, and
students gather in twos and threes, chattering as they head to school,

and in both hands, my father, who’s just come back from a walk, has
a bottle of medicinal spring water, whose effects I don’t even know
whether they work or not.

Clack-clack, my mother
is busy making breakfast, and I can hear it,
and the laziness of my older brother, just looking for cold water,
looks pathetic no matter how many times I see it.

The morning scent is so refreshing and clean.
Mixed in with it is the warm smell of rice steaming to perfection.

Looking up at the blue sky and taking a deep breath,
just like that sky, my heart grows calm.

In the empty sky, red dragonflies, who must have arrived sometime without me noticing,
fly about.
Even the dragonflies seem to circle clumsily, as if they’re not fully awake yet.

Before I knew it, breakfast was over,
my mother is folding laundry, and
my brother is lazily strumming the guitar.

The wall clock rattling away like it’s broken, and
the crying of
my nieces and nephews, who won’t stop crying until you’re sick of it, have mingled together.

For me, an autumn morning really is,
a great joy.
Autumn morning, for you, truly are,
my very big happiness.

For someone like me, who only ever acted spoiled.
