The 29th Liberation Day Commemorative Ceremony
Our democracy of that day
by a few bullets
because of what came out of a gun
to someone
truly just democracy.
To someone else
what was, on closer look, a dirty pretense.
Even now still not revealedthe true nature of our democracy
I wonder to later generations whether it can be known.
Or forever whether it will remain a mystery.
A case that took away
and also took away the life of yet another young child took awayย
if investigated more deeply
not only the two lives but also
the qualifications of 28
at that timepolice ย
and took awayfar more than 100 that day's
journalists' freedom to write and took awayย
that democracy of ours back then.Whether it was trulyor whether they did not want the truth to come out,
still-unrevealed questions and anguish.
We still
do not know.
Only, if there is one thing I want to ask
whether that democracy of that day
even before the Taegeukgi
was something righteous with not a speck of shame
I want to ask.
To the people who lived through that democracy back then.

the 'assassins'
that is,
the 'Yuk Young-suk assassination case'; although it contains parts related to real events, the writer's personal opinion is included, so please understand that not every part is the same as the actual incident.)
