Somehow in a relationship

W. Dingdongdang

After dancing for an hour straight, my stomach was rumbling with hunger, so I stopped by a convenience store with Yewon. After wondering what to buy, I grabbed two of my favorite banana milks: one for me, one for Yewon.

“My sister is paying today!”

When I made a gun shape with both hands and pretended to shoot at Yewon, Yewon just laughed and said.

“Why are you making a fuss over just one banana milk? If you’re going to shoot, shoot properly.”

Pretending not to hear Yewon, he took two banana milks to the counter. "Payment!" he said cheerfully, then handed over three thousand-won bills.

We walked home from school, chatting happily, drinking banana milk with straws. After seeing Yewon off, who arrived home first, I watched the "After Like" choreography video on my phone before heading home. Since I was going to do it anyway, I wanted to memorize even the smallest choreography details and execute them accurately.

“I’m here.”

I arrived home, sucking hard through a straw from the now-empty banana milk carton. I headed to my room to take off my bag and coat, but somehow, the house was noisy. Aside from Dad, who was at work, it was probably just Mom. Oh, I came home late today because of practice. Kim Do-jun must be here too. Did Kim Do-jun's grades go up? Mom's voice sounded excited from earlier.

“What, why! What’s going on!”

I stopped by my room to put my bag down and quickly headed to the living room. It looked so much fun, how could I possibly miss it? I glided across the hallway and reached the living room, where a woman and two men were sitting side by side on the sofa. Mom, Kim Do-jun, and the other one.

"jungkook jeon…?"

Crazy. Why did he come all the way to my house? And he even had the luxury of waving at me? Anyone who saw him would think this place, this house, wasn't mine, but Jeon Jungkook's. No, even without involving a third party, even if I saw this with my own eyes, it looks like Jeon Jungkook's house. I guess he's standing here for the same reason he was invited.

“The teacher told me to give this to you.”

As he said that, Jeon Jungkook rummaged through the bag he had placed next to him and handed me a gray print. "Hey, you even put your bag down, huh?"

I wiggled my toes and took small, slow steps toward Jeon Jungkook. I grabbed the end of the print he held out between my index and middle fingers. Then, as if snatching it away, I pulled it in to see what it was.

Participation in the 17th Seoul Middle School Graduation Ceremony.

I think it's probably an application for the graduation stage. Did Jeon Jungkook hear my guess?

"They said you need that participation form to participate in the graduation ceremony. As the representative, you only need to fill it out. Also… you know you have to write it in black pen, right?"

He raised his left index finger, as if to announce something significant. And what was his intention behind those last words? Did you think I'd never written a participation form like that in my 16 years of life?

Feeling my gaze, Jeon Jungkook opened his mouth again and spoke.

"I thought you wouldn't know, since you're the one who mistakenly called me a kidnapper after a video call. I'm sorry if I offended you."

After hearing those words, which conveyed nothing but a sense of pride, rather than apology, I wanted to go into a dark, pitch-black mountain right now and scream with all my might. If I couldn't do that, I wanted to erase all memories of Jeon Jungkook. If that wasn't possible, I wanted to completely erase Jeon Jungkook from my life.
