The child who came from the sea

Epilogue

High school... back when you transferred in
You weren't even my seatmate...
You were at the window seat all the way in the back of the classroom,
and I was almost in the very front row on the opposite side, so.
It’s not like I was interested.
I was too busy just trying to survive.
After three years of high school and college entrance exam life ended,
I half-heartedly went to college, got drunk all the time, and came home.
I was young then... thinking about it now, it was my youth...
Back in high school, I wasn’t interested in you at all,
so why do I think of you now when you’re not here
Whenever I came home drunk every damn day, tipsy on alcohol
I’d look up your phone number... but there’s no way it would be there...
In your life, I was just
an extra passing through the hallway.
I half-heartedly graduated college too
the moment I stepped out into society...
The director at the company I struggled to get into as a new hire was you.
My heart was pounding like crazy, and I couldn’t focus on work.
My hands were typing on the keyboard, but
my heart was with you.
I still regret missing my chance with you back then.

It’s okay... I’ll hold on tight to you now, even if it’s only now.
