What I hadn't managed to see last night
printed out the handouts
and after brewing myself a cup of coffee,
I headed to the publishing house early in the morning.
After the meeting ended, I came out around lunchtime
and grabbed a quick lunch at a nearby restaurant.
Then I moved to the cafe
and spent the afternoon busy with Jisung.
When things became quiet,
we each set down a cup of tea
and enjoyed some leisurely time.
"Jisung.
Have you ever been stabbed in the back by someone you trusted?"
"Well...
I don't trust people that much, so
I don't think I've ever felt deeply betrayed."
"Wow... that's a smart way to do it."
"But I tend to think that situations make people that way
so...
I guess you could call it an excuse from one angle,
but people ultimately think in whatever way is most comfortable for them.
So I just think, yeah, that could be the case."
I found myself once again impressed by
his way of not making quick judgments about people.
"How can I have
that kind of enlightened mindset like Jisung?"
"It's probably just my personality... haha
Why? Boss, did someone betray you?"
"... It was someone I trusted...
They did something I never expected.
But apparently they did it because they wanted to be by my side.
I... well...
I don't really understand that person."
I thought for a moment before continuing.
"To do something I knew would make me suffer
just because they wanted to be by my side..."
"Mm... sounds like they really liked the boss."
At that, I was left speechless for a moment.
"... That's the irony, isn't it?
Hurting someone you like
just because you want to stay by their side
and doing something like that?"
"I think I can kind of understand how they felt,
but at the same time, I can't forgive it?"
Jisung took a sip of tea and then
continued as if thinking to himself.
"Even though they knew it would be hard for that person,
they liked them,
so they did that...
Maybe they were hurting too.
But... in the end, they must have cared about themselves most
so they acted that way."
I asked Jisung with wide eyes.
"Then Jisung, in a situation like this,
you'd be able to understand and let it go?"
He tilted his head.
"Well.
I think I'd look at it from my own perspective.
Whether I'd forgive that person and keep them by my side,
or not, is ultimately up to my own heart."
"If the resentment gradually fades
and you want to see them again, then you do,
and if you feel like you just can't forgive them,
then you cut it off.
Don't try to think from that person's perspective,
think from the boss's perspective.
Whether you want to see them more or not."
I looked at Jisung as he said that
and smiled softly.
"Jisung, you were Solomon.
From now on, if I have a problem,
I'll have to ask Jisung for a consultation."
"Me?
I'm nothing but a mere human."
He said, scratching his head.
'You're telling me to follow my heart?
Yeah... '
After closing up that day,
Jisung left work first.
After he left, I locked the door
and was working on a translation job.
Someone knocked on the door.
When I went closer and looked, it was Director Kim.
I opened the door.
He came inside,
then suddenly knelt down in front of me.
"What are you doing now?"
"I know I was in the wrong too.
Until you can forgive me even a little
no, until even a little of your anger goes away,
I'll come here every day and kneel like this."
I looked at him silently for a moment.
"That's up to Taehyung.
Whether you kneel or write an apology letter...
but I don't have any way to make my anger go away."
"Taehyung is doing what Taehyung wants to do, too,
and asking for forgiveness.
I'm the same.
If I can forgive you however I want, I will,
and if I can't, I won't.
Even later on, don't say things like, 'I've gone this far,
how can you not forgive me?'"
I left him there
and kept doing what I was doing.
"I miss you..."
