We decided not to cross the line (Season 2)

Episode 22. Suspicion

After receiving a message from Hoonji-ssi

An unexplainable anxiety came over me.

I had even forgotten that I had come with Woojin-ssi.

I was about to leave alone when Woojin-ssi saw me and called me back.

I refused his offer to drive me home

and came home by taxi.

What I had expected when I thought I'd be handling it alone

and what I actually heard with my own ears were different.

More than I'd vaguely imagined,

hearing it directly made my heart much heavier.

As Hoonji-ssi said,

should I just trust it and let it go?

What I heard in the bathroom

was that actress's confident voice.

Hoonji-ssi said he had someone he liked

and that he had sent a reply...

But that actress said she still hadn't heard back.

Whose words are true...?

After coming home, I sat blankly on the sofa.

I had no idea how much time had passed.

When I looked at the clock, it was just past 11.

Before I had time to think,

I took out my phone and sent Hoonji-ssi a message.

[Can we... meet for a bit?]

[When? Now?]

[Yes...]

[Is something wrong?

I can leave in about 1 hour.

I'll come to your place.]

[All right.]

Even after hearing his reply,

I still couldn't think of what to do

and just waited for him to come.

Then suddenly,

I thought I didn't want to make a fuss over nothing.

After deciding that,

I called him right away.

"Hoonji-ssi. Where are you now?"

"I'm... almost there."

"Sorry, but... don't come by. Go home and rest."

"Why? What's going on?"

"It's nothing.

I just called because I wanted to see you..."

I paused for a moment before adding,

"Come to think of it, I feel like I called a tired person over."

"Huh? Really?

You called me because you wanted to see me?

I'm almost there, so I'll at least stop by for a moment.

I'll be there in 10 minutes! See you later!"

Only after he hung up

did I get up from the sofa.

I brewed coffee with beans I liked,

so he'd take it to the set tomorrow,

and poured it into a tumbler.

A little while later,

he came in with a bright smile.

"What a surprise.

You said you wanted to see me and called me over, and you did all this?

You said we should take three months to think things over,

and now you can't wait already?"

Just looking at his innocent face

only made my heart more complicated.

"Aren't you tired?"

"I'm tired every day.

But still, having a girlfriend who comes looking for me like this...

No, my ex-girlfriend, I mean, gives me some energy!"

Even with his joke, I couldn't laugh.

He noticed my mood

right away too.

"Jung-ah-ssi. You didn't just call me over because you wanted to see me, did you?"

"..."

"What is it? Could it be..."

He studied my expression for a moment.

"That message I joked about at the cafe that day,

you're still bothered by it?"

I hesitated, then spoke.

"Hoonji-ssi... you don't have two phones."

He didn't answer.

"And... actually, at the restaurant where I went for dinner tonight,

I saw that actress."

He was still silent.

"I happened to hear it in the bathroom,

that she confessed to Hoonji-ssi...

she was telling her friend."

"So?"

Hoonji-ssi asked.

I quietly looked at his face.

"Did you call me over because you wanted to check that?"

"At first, yes..."

I paused for a moment.

"But then I realized I didn't want to...

so I called again and told you not to come."

"Wasn't it enough to just believe what I said

and let it go?

Did you really have to check every single thing

before you could be satisfied?"

His voice rose.

"Hoonji-ssi..."

"When we're filming, when we act like lovers with each other,

why wouldn't there be people who say they like us?

Every time something like that happens, I don't say anything because I thought it might make you anxious.

I never said a word about it.

That day, I was just going to let it slide too,

but you checked my phone in advance.

So... ha..."

"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have brought it up..."

He couldn't go on speaking,

and seemed to be holding back his anger.

"When you're like this,

I...

I can't breathe..."

Hearing that,

my own heart sank too.

"I'm... Hoonji-ssi...

I'm making you feel suffocated?"

He said nothing.

After looking at me for a moment,

he turned around and walked out.

Before I could even hand him the tumbler I'd prepared in advance...

"You noticed, didn't you?"
