We decided not to cross the line (Season 2)

Episode 35. An Unexpected Reunion

While I was out for a walk with Director Kim,

a call came in from the agency.

It was a message saying there was something urgent that needed to be handled.

We hurried back up to Seoul.

After he dropped me off in front of my place,

he headed back to the office.

After I got home,

I tried to clear my cluttered mind.

I did the cleaning I’d put off, and ran the laundry,

and while tidying up the place

I tried not to think about anything.

This week had been unusually eventful.

I moved Mr. Hoonji home when he was drunk,

ran into Hoonji with his girlfriend,

and even happened to see his older sister.

I thought once we broke up, that would be the end of it.

But strangely enough,

things were more complicated after the breakup.

By the time I finished the housework,

the sun was already setting.

Just to get some fresh air,

I dressed casually and left the house.

Then, all of a sudden, I looked up at the clear night sky.

On a night like this,

I thought the stars might be easier to see.

I grabbed my car keys and, with Hoonji,

set the place we’d gone stargazing as my destination.

I’d never been there alone, so I was a little scared, but

as I looked up at the sky as if stars were pouring down,

I felt as though I’d been left alone in the universe.

I was sitting on a bench, staring up at the sky for a long while, when

"How did you come here alone?"

At the familiar voice,

I jumped and turned around.

Hoonji was standing there.

"Hoonji!"

"You’re always going around with the director,

but you came here alone."

His tone was sharp, but

there was a faint smile on his lips.

"I came here with my ex, so

I thought it’d be weird to bring you here."

"You were worried your ex would be upset?"

"No. I felt bad for my current boyfriend."

"You didn’t come because you were thinking of your ex?"

"I just came to see the stars.

Don’t get ahead of yourself."

"Can’t you just say you came because you were thinking of me?"

"Why? Are you feeling smothered again?"

"Jung-a...

So that’s what hurt you..."

I felt like he’d hit the nail on the head,

and I couldn’t say a word.

"Sorry.

That wasn’t what I meant..."

"It’s okay.

My current boyfriend says that side of me is cute."

I’d only meant it as a joke.

But Hoonji

pressed his lips shut at the end of those words,

and said nothing for a while.

"Hoonji.

Be good to your girlfriend.

When the two of you are together, she says it seems like you’re thinking about something else,

and that makes her feel hurt."

"Who said that? Did Hyunji say that?"

"Yes..."

"You told Jung-a about that?

Ha... seriously..."

"You did it because you didn’t know who I was."

Hoonji looked at me for a moment.

"Are you happy being with the director?"

He paused briefly, then asked again.

"Are you happy?"

"Hmm... I feel at ease.

Honestly...

it’s not as shaky or thrilling as when I’m with Hoonji,

but still, it’s comfortable, and fun."

"Were you shaky and thrilled when you were with me?"

"I was...

but you weren’t like that when you were with me.

So...

were you swayed by someone else?"

"I admit I was for a moment.

But that doesn’t mean

I wasn’t like that when I was with you."

He paused for a moment, then went on.

"I don’t really know either.

Why I acted that way back then...

Thinking about it now, I regret it."

Looking at him, I said,

"Even if you regret it, it was a decision you made, so

be good to the person you’re seeing now.

Don’t regret it again later."

"Jung-a...

Can’t we go back?"

For a long time, I looked into his eyes.

Then, slowly, I shook my head.

"I was in the middle of persuading my family for a long time."
