We decided not to cross the line (Season 2)

Episode 69. Reality vs. Love

It was an afternoon spent doing translation work at a cafe.

Suddenly, the phone rang.

When I checked the screen, it was my older sister.

"Unnie. What is it?"

"Jung-ah... that guy, Park Hunji, seemed really nice."

After pausing for a moment, my sister

said in admiration.

"How can he be so adorable?

He’s polite too... and so pretty."

"What are you talking about all of a sudden?

Did you meet Hunji?"

"Wasn’t it you who gave him my number?"

"No... I didn’t do that."

"Really? Then how did he get my number?

A few days ago, he suddenly texted me.

He asked if I could talk.

When I called him back, he said he wanted to meet."

"Hunji contacted you first?"

"Uh... so I met him, and he’s a really great person."

"I know that too..."

But after a moment, my sister’s voice

grew a little more serious.

"But... Jung-ah..."

"Yeah?"

"You two aren’t a match.

You know that, right?"

"Why not me?"

"For one thing, there’s the age difference...

That guy seems like he wants to get married and have kids

and all that...

You don’t want to get married.

Then it’s better to let go quickly."

"I think after I went to Spain

I started thinking maybe

getting married... wouldn’t be so bad.

But if it were Hunji, I’m not sure

I’d be confident about it."

"Yeah... first of all, his family wouldn’t allow it, and...

my mom and dad, well... I’m not sure either...

Even if you begged them, I don’t think that would be easy."

"So what....

Why did you call?"

"After meeting that guy, I thought he was

such a good person that it’s a waste, but...

it would be good for him if you let go first, and

it also seems right for you to meet someone

you could actually marry, so..."

Listening to my sister,

I got angry for some reason,

but I got even more annoyed because everything she said was true.

"Unnie... I know.

That’s why I went all the way to Spain

and tried to forget him, but I couldn’t.

I met other people too...

but instead I just missed him more and more, and it was painful."

While talking to my sister,

I finally broke down crying.

"Jung-ah... are you crying?

You really do like that guy a lot..."

"Unnie... I should hang up now...

I know too... what I have to do."

After hanging up,

I left the cafe and headed to a nearby park.

I wanted to get some air and feel the sunshine too.

Then,

I saw Miguel walking across the park toward the cafe.

"Sophie, why are you outside?"

"I came out to meet you, knowing you’d be coming, Miguel."

"How did you know I’d come?"

"Just kidding.ㅎ

Are you here to see Ji-seong?"

"We said we’d have dinner together after work."

"Miguel, once your trip is over, you’ll go back to Spain,

won’t you?

Then what will you do?"

"I don’t want to worry about that in advance right now.

I just decided to accept my feelings for what they are, happily.

Even after I go back to Spain,

there are plenty of ways to keep in touch."

"When you were living with your girlfriend in the US...

did you have no idea about these feelings back then?"

"Back then, I thought liking women

was natural, and

I guess I didn’t really feel anything special

toward men of the same sex."

He fell into thought for a moment, then

went on.

"After Sophie went back to Korea,

a male customer came to the cafe and

the feeling was different.

It was like when I first met my ex-girlfriend,

I felt nervous and excited."

"Weren’t you confused?"

"Very...

At first, it was hard and painful

to figure out how to accept it.

After talking to my mother and

opening up about my feelings,

I’ve come to accept and acknowledge it a lot more now."

"...Go in.

Tell Ji-seong to get ready to leave work.

I’ll be in soon too."

After I let Miguel in,

I soon followed him into the cafe.

I watched the two of them leave side by side,

smiling brightly.

Love seems to have many colors and

shapes.

Just because the shape and color are different

doesn’t mean it isn’t love.

Maybe what matters is

not what form love takes,

but whether that feeling is real.

The fact that the shape and color of my love

are a little different

means I’ll be subjected to all kinds of stares and attention, and

that I’ll have to hear people’s judgments

feels so burdensome and scary to me.

I stayed at the cafe

and finished the translation work I’d been doing earlier.

Then my phone

rang with a message alert.

[How about a dinner date tonight with a handsome younger guy?]

It was a message from Hunji.

[Sorry, but I’m already taken.]

A reply came a moment later.

[Then could I borrow you for just today?]

[What will you do for me in return if I lend myself out?]

[I’ll give you a sweet kiss as a gift.]

[Then I accept.]

When I stepped out of the cafe door, Hunji was standing there.

We greeted each other with bright smiles.

"Where’s your car, Hunji?"

"The manager dropped me off and left, you know?"

"I came to work without my car today too,

so let’s walk."

Then something suddenly came to mind.

"Hunji. We...

there’s a place that does fortune readings on the way,

want to stop by and have one?"

"Fortune reading? You mean tarot and things like that?"

"Yeah. Right.

Every time I pass by there, I’m always curious, so

let’s go there today.

You can wear a hat, Hunji. And cover up with a mask."

"Yeah. That sounds fun.

We should check our compatibility!!"

"Why? Is something bad?" <70화 중에서>
