We decided not to cross the line (Season 2)

Episode 8. Temperature Difference

"When Jung-ah was learning the barista course,

every time we met, she even changed the beans,

she’d brew coffee for me.

Sometimes I really wanted to drink that coffee..."

'Ah... seriously.

They really know how to make a person weak...'

"Okay.

I happened to have some new beans at home, so

let’s go up together then."

A flush colored Hunji’s face.

"Really? Is that okay?

Wow~~ I’m so excited!!"

"So this is why you said you’d take me home, huh?"

"Haha... you caught me."

I brought him with me

into the house.

Once Hunji came inside,

he looked around once

and said,

"Now that I’m here...

it feels like I’ve gone back to that time."

"Wait.

I’ll make you decaf."

"Okay~"

He sat at the dining table

and watched quietly

as I made the coffee.

"Jung-ah..."

"Yes?"

"After we came back to Korea...

I got so insanely busy, you know.

So back then...

I didn’t really understand how you felt.

I’m sorry.

After we broke up, I thought about it a lot."

Hearing that, I stopped in the middle of making the coffee

and looked at him quietly.

"I said I trusted you too...

but with you always on edge while filming that movie,

I kept pushing you too hard..."

For a moment, we just stood there in silence.

"It’s all in the past now.

Hunji, next time you meet someone,

just treat them better...

and I... next time I meet someone,

I’m going to seriously think about marriage."

"What did you say?"

He looked up at me in shock.

"You said before that you didn’t want to get married, didn’t you?"

"I did.

But... seeing Maria and Antonio in Spain,

I changed my mind a lot.

Growing old like that as friends, as lovers, as a married couple...

I think that sounds nice."

I set down a cup of hot Americano in front of him,

and one in front of me,

then sat across from him.

"So from when you came back to Korea from Spain,

you’d been thinking that way?"

"I was..."

"Then why did you never say something like that

to me even once?"

"Back then we were fighting so fiercely

that I couldn’t talk, haha?"

I remembered how we’d fought back then,

and a snort of laughter slipped out.

"You’re laughing right now?"

'What the...'

I was speechless at his sudden irritation.

"Then... should I cry? Why are you suddenly like this?"

"No... it’s not sudden...

for such an important change of heart,

we should’ve shared it with each other.

What I mean is..."

He took a sip of the coffee in front of him

and fiddled with the cup.

"You could just share it with your next boyfriend,

couldn’t you?"

"The person I’m seeing now...

doesn’t exist yet, does he?"

"There’s going to be one soon."

"Huh?"

"We hired a ridiculously handsome friend

as part-time staff at our cafe.

I’m going to try really hard to win him over."

"Younger than me?"

"Since he’s on leave from school... I guess so?"

"Hunji. I’m joking.

I said that so you’d laugh,

why are you taking it so seriously?"

At his grave expression,

I finally burst out laughing.

"Ah... so it was a joke..huh."

Only after seeing me laugh

did his serious expression relax.

"How does the coffee taste?"

In my role as the cafe owner,

I asked him to check.

"It’s good.

It tastes exactly like I remember."

"The taste you remember..."

His words

somehow made my heart ache.

Back when we loved each other...

the fact that he still remembered the taste of that coffee

suddenly felt bittersweet and distant. "That customer doesn’t seem unfamiliar..."
