16. Homies - Siren

photo

The siren wailed
On the empty streets
The knife handle and blood that fell while running away are excited
When we were young
What didn't you know man

Night has fallen on the empty city alleyways.
Dim moonlight seeps through the broken streetlights,
The wind blew coldly.

The sound of the siren keeps getting closer and closer
It heightened the tension in the city. The streets were covered in blood.
It was stained, and next to it was a discarded knife handle.

Eugene exhaled sharply, one hand pressed against his ribs. Warm blood trickled between his fingers.

"What's wrong?"
He looked at his hands with a distant gaze.
Until a few hours ago, I was just having a normal time with my friends.
The sight of them laughing and chatting flashed by.

“I really didn’t know anything back then…”
He muttered bitterly.

A few hours ago, he was gathered with his friends in a ruined factory.
Everyone was living a slightly crooked life,
They treated each other like family.

The problem was that night, unlike usual, a friend brought the item in question.
It started when he appeared.

"Look, this is just a scare."
Jeonghoon took out a small knife handle and smiled.
But there was tension in that laughter.

“Jeonghoon, isn’t that a bit much?” Eugene asked.

“We can’t just live by being hit.
This time we have to show it."

Eugene felt anxiety rising in a corner of his heart,
I didn't have the courage to stop my friends. In the end, they ended up wandering the streets at night, following Jeong-hoon's plan.

The events happened too quickly.
When I met kids from other neighborhoods,
The atmosphere quickly became tense.
At that moment when their hostility spread like wildfire,
The sword moved quickly in Jeonghoon's hand.

There was a mix of screams and confusion.
Eugene was holding the knife without realizing it.
and...

"This isn't it." Eugene threw the knife on the floor.
He couldn't stand it any longer and started running.
Behind me, the sound of sirens was getting closer.

Eugene, who had returned to the present, was standing leaning against the wall.
He hid in a corner of a ruined residential area, lost in thought.
"I didn't know then. But I know now."

Looking at his blood-stained hands, he made up his mind.
There was no escape from this city.
But to change something,
I had to accept the price of the choices I had made so far.

The sound of police footsteps could be heard from afar.
Eugene slowly raised his hand.
"Now it's my turn to finish."
