CHANYEON
Brilliant Short Story Collection (Visual)

(SFX: neon pink and teal lights spin in smooth circles over the polished wooden floor. An enormous synth bassline from high-energy 80s pop rock reverberates through the room.)

I was standing against a low wall painted in neon colors, desperately clutching the safety bar as I somehow tried to keep my balance on the rental roller skates.

Just a few steps away, Chanyeon was gliding backward with infuriatingly smooth, precise skill.

With that signature calm and exceptional athletic reflexes, he looked endlessly composed with his arms loosely crossed over his chest.

Wearing a slightly oversized denim jacket over a plain white T-shirt, he kept that cool, mature aura of his while looking every bit like the perfect retro high-school star (first love manipulator) in visual form.

[Chanyeon] (teasingly) "You look just like a newborn baby deer."

He spun around to face me, then came to a light, effortless stop right in front of the wall I was clinging to, without any brakes at all.

[Me] (hissing, snapping) "I’m literally hanging on for dear life right now, Chanyeon. Stop teasing me."

Between the physical exertion and his dazzling, shattering smile looming so close in front of me, my face burned hot.

[Chanyeon] (deep, gentle aura, his gaze softening as he said quietly) "I’m not teasing you."

He reached out both his big hands toward me. Palms up, it was a silent gesture offering me a lifeline.

[Chanyeon] "Come here. Just trust me and take my hand."

[Me] (laughing, hesitating)"I can’t promise that."

In the end, I let go of the wall’s safety bar and laid both my small hands on his broad palms.

(SFX: screen flash / a powerful current surging straight upward, dramatized)

The moment our fingers locked together, it felt as if a massive current shot straight up my arms, and my composure started to shake violently.

Chanyeon’s always steady posture faltered for an instant.

His calm, unshaken poker face cracked completely in a split second, his eyes widening slightly.

A rare, cute crimson flush began to creep up the nape of his neck, proving that my touch had completely shattered his concentration.

The moment I gasped in a deep breath, both legs slipped outward and I pitched forward as-is.

And Chanyeon, who was always calm and composed, got dragged down with me onto the wooden floor in one fell swoop.

(SFX: BANG—! A heavy, dull impact sound effect as the screen shakes violently.)

In the sight before me, where neon colors and spinning lights swirled together chaotically, the wooden floor rushed up to me in an instant.

I braced myself hard for the impact, but instead of the hard wooden planks, I hit Chanyeon’s chest.

He moved with almost soldier-like reflexes.

His big arms instantly wrapped around me, perfectly protecting my head and back from the floor, and only after we had rolled roughly a few steps across the floor did we finally come to a stop.

We lay there completely tangled together on the floor for a while.

From the speaker above us, the synth bass kept humming and vibrating straight through the wooden floor we were lying on.

[Me] (barely opening my eyes, groaning low)"Oh no..."

And then my body completely froze.

Chanyeon was lying flat on his back on the floor, but he was holding me safely and tightly against his body.

His face was less than three inches from mine, and his deep, dark eyes had widened with an intense, breathtaking shock.

The always easygoing, calm, older-brother-like mask he wore had completely vanished.

Where our bodies touched, I could clearly feel his heart pounding wildly and rapidly against my chest, and his cheeks were flushed a bright, cute crimson.

In an instant, all the noise in the crowded roller rink vanished as if by magic. We could only stare at each other.

In the warm air, our breaths tangled wildly together, and my heart dropped at the wave of heavy romantic tension that washed over us.

Breaking the magical silence, Chanyeon let out a small, slightly awkward laugh, his eyes crinkling into a smile as if he were trying to hide just how flustered he really was.

[Chanyeon] (gently releasing the hand that had been around my waist, clearing his throat, voice lower than usual) "Hm, this was definitely not in the plan."

[Me] (feeling the heat rush up my face, with a nervous laugh) "I did warn you I couldn’t promise anything."

With careful, deliberate movements, Chanyeon shifted his weight, easily keeping his balance on the skates despite the awkward angle.

He got up first and then reached down, slipping both of his strong hands under my armpits with unbelievably gentle care to lift me up lightly.

Keeping a firm, reassuring hold around my waist so I wouldn’t faceplant again, he guided me slowly backward until my hands safely caught the roller rink exit door.

He scratched the back of his neck, and a cute, shy smile bloomed across his face.

[Chanyeon] (murmuring softly, glancing toward the sparkling lights across the main lobby) "You know, I think those skates are dead set on getting us tonight..."

[Chanyeon] (turning his gaze back to me with a sweet, alluring smile) "...wanna go do something else instead?"

We returned the murderous rental skates, changed back into our own shoes, and walked off to a far corner of the lobby.

In the darkness there, a vintage sticker-photo booth with neon decorations was humming away.

The curtain was a faded velvet red, and the glowing sign above it blinked with a warm, enticing light.

[Chanyeon] (wearing that trademark mischievous smile, pulling the curtain aside and gesturing for me to go into the seat inside) "We need proof we survived. Ready?"

I squeezed myself into the narrow space, and Chanyeon slid in right beside me. The photo booth was unbelievably cramped.

His broad shoulder pressed firmly against mine, and his neat, comforting cologne scent instantly filled the tiny space, making the air feel suddenly warm.

[Chanyeon] (muttering low with a finger on the glowing start button on the screen) "Okay, the flash is going to go off four times. Ready?"

(SFX: click— camera flash effect / photo booth sequence begins)

For the first photo, we pressed our shoulders tightly together and put on normal, textbook smiles.

In the second photo, Chanyeon theatrically pointed at my bruised knee, and I gave the lens a sullen, pouting expression like some tragic heroine.

The camera caught it right at the exact moment he burst out laughing in a low, rumbling voice at the sight of it.

(SFX: click— camera flash effect 3)

By the time the third frame flashed, our light laughter had begun to die down. The cramped space felt even smaller, far more intimate.

When I turned my head to look at him, Chanyeon was already staring straight at me.

His gaze was deep, unwavering, and filled with a soft yet undeniable intensity that completely seized my breath.

The fourth and final camera flash burst into a wash of white light, illuminating the booth in an instant, but neither of us blinked.

Even as the photo booth’s machine began printing our photo strip outside, we stood perfectly still, frozen in place as we stared into each other’s eyes.

The silence inside the curtained booth grew heavier, wrapped in waves of breath-stealing romantic tension.

The hand Chanyeon had rested on the shelf slowly slid along the wooden surface, until the tip of his fingers gently touched mine.

He didn’t pull his hand away. Instead, he turned his hand over and threaded his long fingers between mine, lacing them together, and held both of our hands tightly in a firm, warm grip.

[Chanyeon] (in a low, breathless whisper) "By the way."

The sound of his voice gave me goosebumps. He moved just a little closer, looking at my face with those dark eyes, utterly serious.

[Chanyeon] "Usually I try to act calm on the outside, and I try to act mature... but honestly, you’ve completely turned my head upside down."

[Chanyeon] "Ever since I got on that rink tonight, every time you touch me, it feels like my heart’s going to jump right out of my chest."

Under the faint light inside the booth, a vivid, lovely crimson blush spread across his cheeks, completely washing away his usual calm expression.

[Chanyeon] (tightening his grip on my hand, murmuring low)"I don’t want to be just your reliable friend anymore."

A soft, unbelievably sweet smile brushed his lips as he squeezed my hand tightly.

[Chanyeon] "I want to be the person who holds your hand like this every day. Promise me you feel this too."

Chanyeon’s confession lingered in the warm, stifling air of the booth, and the weight of his honest words made my heart hammer against my ribs.

I looked down at our intertwined fingers, then back up at his big, uneasy eyes.

The defensive, cool facade he usually wore was gone completely, and he stood before me utterly unguarded and vulnerable.

[Me] (whispering, voice trembling with pure happiness) "Chanyeon."

[Me] "You don’t need to make any promise. My heart’s been doing the same thing ever since I fell on top of you."

A breathless, unbelievably relieved laugh spilled from his lips, and a bright, joyful light sparkled in his eyes.

Before I could even fully read his expression, Chanyeon leaned forward and closed the last few inches between us.

(SFX: sound effect — click-click whirr~ photo booth printing sound)

The first butterfly-fluttering kiss happened when his lips touched mine.

It was soft and sweet, full of all the warmth and affection he’d been hiding for months.

I squeezed his hand tightly and closed my eyes, completely lost in the quiet magic hidden behind the velvet red curtain.

The very moment our lips met, the photo booth machine burst out with a violent, loud mechanical coughing sound.

A sharp, robotic beep echoed through the cramped space, and with a loud clunk from the dispenser at the bottom, the freshly printed photo strip popped out.

Chanyeon looked at the blinking screen, then back at me, and the sudden interruption sent a fierce, dazzling crimson rush to his cheeks in an instant.

He rubbed the back of his neck with one hand, letting out a shy but adorable laugh.

[Chanyeon] (laughing with embarrassed playfulness) "Ugh... this machine’s timing is seriously awful."

[Me] (holding back laughter that was about to spill out, playfully) "Maybe it just wanted us to have the evidence."

As I let out a nervous laugh, the last of the romantic tension melted completely into pure, lighthearted joy.

We slid up from the cramped wooden bench and walked back out into the neon-lit lobby, still holding hands tightly.

Chanyeon bent down to take the sparkling photo strip from the metal slot. Under the neon lights, we held the strip between us and looked at the four clear photos.

The first two were full of silly, smiling expressions, and the third perfectly captured that breathless moment when Chanyeon had been looking straight into my eyes.

But what made both of us smile was the fourth photo. Just moments after his confession, the camera flash had gone off, capturing the deep, beautiful blush on his face and the pure, intense happiness in our eyes.

[Chanyeon] (murmuring as he gently stroked the edge of the paper with his thumb) "I’m taking this."

He safely tucked the photo strip into his jacket pocket.

He turned to look at me, pulled me close with an unbelievably soft gaze, and tugged me to his side while holding my hand tightly.

[Chanyeon] "Come on. Let’s go get something to eat. We’ve still got a lot of lost time to make up for."

As we left the rink and breathed in the cool, crisp night air, I rested my head against his sturdy shoulder. My chest was completely full of happiness.

We had survived those horribly uncomfortable rental skates, broken through the wall of the comfortable friend zone, and finally marked the perfect beginning of our happy love story under the neon lights.
