Family on paper

Love Maze 00-1

I first met them when my mother and their father had dinner together before they remarried. Being so young, I only learned of their intentions after hearing them from my mother.

엄마

“Hey, what do you think about having a father⋯?”

여주

“Dad⋯?”

엄마

“Yeah. I have some good friends and older brothers.”

My mother asked me what it would be like to have a father and older brother. Since she was a single mother who raised me, naturally, a father figure had never existed for me since birth.

My brother is like that too. Although I envied my siblings at school, I never once questioned what it would be like to have one of them.

My mother's question was unfamiliar and awkward to me, so I could only nod. Regardless, she seemed happy to be telling me this.

“Hello, you’re the girl. My name is Kim Hyung-cheol.”

여주

“Hello⋯.”

“I heard the female protagonist likes to exercise, so I bought her some sneakers. What do you think?”

여주

“⋯Thank you, sir.”

They were clean, white sneakers. For us, living in a semi-basement, struggling to survive day to day, they felt like a luxury, a very expensive pair. I accepted them and held them close to my heart. I couldn't bear to wear them on my dirty feet.

엄마

“Oh my, Seokjin seems to be getting bigger. Should I buy him a set of clothes?”

"it's okay."

엄마

"I heard Namjoon got first place in the whole school again this time? Congratulations. Do you need anything?"

“I’m fine too. Thank you for the congratulations, ma’am.”

엄마

“Taehyung… Oh, that’s right. Taehyung, this is the middle-aged woman’s daughter, Yeoju. She’s the same age as Taehyung. We’re going to the same middle school next year, so be friendly with us, okay?”

“⋯⋯.”

I saw them for the first time here, but Mom didn't seem to mind. She called them by their names affectionately and praised them.

The child, who was the same age as me, didn't even glance at me despite my mother's words, instead staring intently at the screen of his phone. Without even saying hello, I glanced at him out of the corner of my eye to see what he was doing. It was the latest game, played by many of his friends.

After my mom introduced me, there was no conversation between them or me, only the sounds of her and the man talking. It was a fancy restaurant I'd never seen before, meat I'd never seen before, dishes I'd never seen before.

‘⋯I wonder if I’ll be living in a place like this, eating food like this every day from now on?’

When I was young, all of this was unfamiliar to me.

I'm planning to wrap it up quickly without a grand worldview. The story will be short, the plot will be fast-paced, and the quality won't be guaranteed. I'll aim for a short run of 5 days, or a long run of 7 days, so I'll move quickly. The male lead hasn't been decided yet!
