3. That first night

That night. Seyeon's room

Seyun was sitting in front of a small table in the room, drinking a glass of water.

She carefully opened the bag, took out a palm-sized picture frame from inside, and placed it on the bedside table.

The photo contained the family's laughter.

정세연
“They said it was a fully furnished studio apartment… the rent was cheap… and the transportation was convenient…”

A small voice drifted through the room. She lowered her head and silenced her words.

정세연
“What is this… Why am I like this…”

My vision blurred. A memory suddenly came to mind.

A winter day in China while I was studying abroad alone. A night spent crying in the snow at a bus stop.

The countless neglects and loneliness I had to endure because I was Korean and a woman.

정세연
“Why does it always have to start like this… I just… want to live diligently…”

Her voice became increasingly trembling.

And then, soon, a sob began to seep into the quiet room.

Meanwhile, in the living room.

Myeongho, who was heading to the kitchen to drink water, stopped walking when he heard sobs coming out through the crack in the door.

He stood there without saying a word.

Her expression wavered slightly. The look she had previously shown.

It was only now that he realized that it wasn't just a bewildered look.

‘…She’s crying.’

He closed his eyes for a moment, then opened them again. But he didn't knock on the door.

I just stood there quietly, holding the cup with water in it, looking up at the ceiling.

And he muttered softly, as if talking to himself.

디에잇(명호)
“…Really. How did it end up like this...”

The voice was low and short.

But there was a different emotion in his tone than before.

It was a strange weight, seeping in cautiously.
