--

In the darkness, the voice rang out again.

“Yeonjun…”

Not this time.

It wasn't a blurry shape.

It was so… vivid.

Just as it was when I was alive.

A smile, eyes, voice.

Everything—was as it was.

“Seol-ah…?”

The Fed took a deep breath.

My heart was pounding like it was going to burst.

My whole body was frozen, but the tears didn't stop.

“Ugh… Heuk… Seol-ah… Why are you here now…?”

“Leaving me alone… How long…?”

He staggered towards Seol-ah.

and…

He hugged her tightly, as if he didn't want to wake up from a dream.

“Ugh… Without you… I can’t do anything… Seol-ah…”

Seol-ah patted his back without saying a word.

That touch was warm too.

As if, really… a living person.

“Me too… I missed you so much, Yeonjun.”

“…Seol-ah… Is this a dream…?”

"no.

I really came.”

"…really?"

Seol-ah nodded.

And then he put his hand on Yeonjun's shoulder and whispered low and quietly.

“I… almost got dragged to the afterlife.

But… someone gave me a chance.

“Even if it’s just for a little while… I’ll have a chance to come see you.”

“…….”

“But… to completely return to this world…

“You have to help me.”

“…Anything. I’ll do anything. Just say the word, Seol-ah.”

Seol-ah's eyes wavered.

“Neurolbit Reservoir.

There is a box sunken at the bottom of that river.

If I find that... I can officially return.

“I won’t have to leave you ever again.”

“Box…? What’s in there?”

Seol-ah smiled sadly.

“You’ll know when you find it.

But we have to hurry.

“I don’t have much time.”

“…Okay… I’ll find it, no matter what. Don’t worry...”

At that moment, Seol-ah's smile began to fade.

“Remember, Yeonjun.

“You have to trust only me… only me.”

“Seol-ah, wait a minute! Not yet…”

When he reached out, she was already gone.

As if it were a lie, not a trace was left.

The next morning.

The Fed has packed its bags.

I had already taken a vacation from work and was planning to go straight to the Neulbit Reservoir.

“This might sound crazy, but…

“If I can see Seol-ah again… what’s the problem?”

He packed his bags and went straight out the front door.

.

.

.

The door closed, and silence fell again in the house.

The peonies in the vase were all withered and scattered on the floor.

and-

The phone that the Fed left on the table.

The screen flashes and a text message arrives.

Tiring—

“Don’t trust that kid.”
