Half a Cup

Byun BaekHyun

A week had passed since I became Byun BaekHyun. Feeling unwell, I canceled some interviews, including the one I had with Park Yoora from MBC. My body had recovered after the long rest, but I was trapped in this body... since Park ChanYeol spilled the drink, my transformation depended on him.

That was a small detail of this curse; whoever summoned the spirit that drowned in the pond was the only one capable of putting it back to sleep.

We had a comeback coming up, and I absolutely didn't want Park Chanyeol to have the control he had over me that I didn't even know he did. So I decided to go to where Park Chanyeol was. As hunters, we were good at tracking; we could transform into wolves and follow someone's scent just by looking at them. It was a really practical ability. But I could only do it while in Byun Baekhyun's form, whereas disappearing in a halo of light could be done as Kim Baehyou or as Byun Baekhyun.

Upon arriving at the place where Park ChanYeol was, I returned to my human form.

I didn't expect Park ChanYeol to live in a mansion like this. For someone who was dedicated to alternative rock, his room was very tidy. It had gained a plus on my list of pros and cons to determine if I felt something for Park ChanYeol. I know... pathetic.

It was early. I saw the Rilakkuma clock on the wall; it was 8:03 p.m. Park Chanyeol was asleep, and Rilakkuma, the plushie, was dangling from his fingers. In his other hand, he held a bunch of leaves scattered on his mattress.

The sheets contained information about me and...my brothers?, crossed out, underlined, and with notes. All the lights were on. I turned off the nearest table lamp, but Park ChanYeol opened his eyes and asked, "Why are you turning off the lights?" Startled, I turned the lamp back on.

I thought he was awake since he opened his eyes, but I remembered that Kai once complained on his social media about ChanYeol and his habit of sleeping with his eyes open.

I felt my soul return to my body.

I heard two more breaths a few rooms away, assuming it was her parents; both were fast asleep. I decided to take a self-guided tour to her kitchen. I needed hot water; I didn't need much, half a cup would suffice. After opening her door and propping it open with one of my shoes, I slowly went downstairs, where the smell of clean dishes wafted through the air.

I quickly found the kettle, and after 4 minutes I turned it off. I didn't want it to start whistling and Park ChanYeol or one of his parents to come downstairs and find a super idol invading their house.

I took out a plastic cup I'd brought from home and poured in some of the nearly boiling water. I put the kettle back and made sure the burner was completely off. As I went upstairs, I ran into a monster. It was prowling the hallway, trying to get into Park Chanyeol's room, but the lights were blocking it. It was a low-level monster, and with a simple spell, I could send it back to its world.

To tell the truth, all the monsters he had eliminated from ChanYeol's surroundings were of this type; they were never dangerous enough, but they abounded in his life as if they were waiting for something.

After scaring away the monster, I removed the shoe from the entrance and closed the door. Rilakkuma was already lying on the floor, Chanyeol's eyes were closed. I placed the handle of the cup on his finger and a few drops fell into my hand. I transformed into BaeHyo, removed the cup with the remaining water, and poured it down my back. I picked up Rilakkuma from the floor and placed it in Park ChanYeol's hand. I felt dizzy from the sudden movement and applied more force than usual to Park ChanYeol's hand. He closed his hand and grabbed my middle and ring fingers. After trying to free my fingers, I caused Park ChanYeol to wake up. I was petrified.

I tried to hold the plastic cup, but it fell and made a sound that echoed throughout the room.

Park ChanYeol realized that someone was indeed in the room and, rubbing his eyes, tried to see where I was. I disappeared as soon as I reacted; the glimmer I gave off was lost among so many lights.

The mission had been successful; I left the Park mansion as Byun BaekHyun. But this time, Park ChanYeol had no control over me. The night was warm, and soon the rain filled the air. When I got home, my brother MinSeok was waiting for me with his arms crossed, and JongDae was hiding behind MinSeok.
