๐ŸŽƒ Halloween Special: Our Own Quiet Rhythm

The heavy wooden door clicked shut behind us, trapping us in the dim "witch's cottage" room. At that moment, fake thunder, howling wind, and a bizarre, grand voice spilling from hidden speakers filled the room. It was an incredibly loud racket deliberately designed by the escape room creator to confuse the players and make spoken communication almost impossible.

I looked at Chan-yeon. He didn't seem flustered at all. Instead, under the room's flickering amber lights, he met my eyes and gave me that signature reassuring smile.

'Scared?' His hands moved gently, speaking in clear, neat sign language.

I shook my head and followed Chan-yeon's sign language 'No'then pointed to the dusty bookshelf in the corner. 'Let's find the first clue.'

While the other teams were wasting their breath shouting over the artificial storm sounds, Chan-yeon and I moved like a perfectly meshed machine. Once I focused fully on Chan-yeon, the room's noisy din faded completely into the background of my mind.

He stood beside the locked box on the opposite side of the room, waiting for me to find the number sequence hidden in the prop spellbook. When I found the numbers, I didn't need to walk over or shout. I simply raised my hand and sent over '3... 7... 2... 0'in sign language. Chan-yeon caught my movement at once, entered the password, and the heavy lock slid open with a soft click. His eyes crinkled as he smiled silently, then proudly lifted the glowing crystal skull from inside the box. We were completely smashing the room's best record.

"We have seriously good teamwork," I said out loud, making sure my lips were easy to read even under the dim lighting.

He nodded enthusiastically, then closed the distance until he was right in front of me. "We're the best team," he said softly. His voice was low, but clear enough to cut through the artificial background noise, and it was as warm as his smile.

When the clock's hand showed only 5 minutes left, we reached the final puzzle. It was a changing visual grid on the wall right beside the exit door. I stepped closer to match the symbols, but the angle was tricky because of the shadow from the prop bookshelf.

Then, all at once, a pleasant warmth came from behind me. Chan-yeon had moved right up behind me, closing the distance completely. Because of the shadow, he leaned over my shoulder to get a better look at the puzzle.

But his gaze wasn't on the wall. His eyes settled straight on my face. With his chest almost touching my back, I could feel the steady, regular pulse of his heartbeat through him. My own heart lurched, as if it had shot up into my throat.

"Look a little closer," he whispered right by my ear. His breath was warm against my skin. Reaching out as if to hold me, he brushed lightly over my shoulder and guided my eyes to the hidden latch.

I reached out with trembling fingers and pushed the latch. A satisfying click rang through the cottage, and the exit door swung wide open, flooding in the lobby's bright, ordinary light. The game was over, and we had won.

But Chan-yeon didn't step back.

In the sudden silence that came through the open doorway, the loud sound effects cut off completely. He turned to face me fully. The playful energy from a moment ago had shifted into something much softer, much more serious. He looked steadily into my eyes under the bright lights. He reached out and gently linked his fingers through mine. His touch was firm and warm.

"In all this chaos, other people struggle just to hear each other," he said slowly and clearly, his gaze fixed on my eyes. "But when I'm with you, I don't need sound at all. What I love most is our own quiet rhythm."

He squeezed my hand and gave me a soft, sincere smile. Then, still holding my hand tightly, he led me out of the room as we walked together into the real world.
