It was an afternoon when the rain fell quietly.
I was sitting on the bus stop bench, staring blankly at the raindrops. It had been six months since we broke up, but the emptiness in my heart still hadn’t been filled at all.
"You’ll be okay."
The people around me said it so easily, but like cracks left in broken glass even after it’s glued back together, my heart was the same.
Then someone sat down next to me.
"Do you like rainy days?"
It was a voice I’d never heard before.
When I turned my head, a man holding a black umbrella was quietly smiling.
"No. I just… had nowhere to hide from it."
At my answer, he looked out the window for a moment and said,
"Me too."
For some reason, those words felt comforting.
After a brief silence, the bus arrived. We got on the same bus and ended up sitting side by side.
"I’m Soobin."
He held out his hand first.
"...I’m I. "
I briefly said my name and took his hand.
Soobin’s hand was warm.
After a long while of saying nothing and just looking out the window, he asked cautiously,
"Have you… been through something really hard?"
I was surprised.
I thought I was hiding it well, but it seemed like he could tell just from my expression.
"...Did it show?"
Soobin gave a small laugh and nodded.
"I used to walk around with the same face."
At those words, I finally looked into his eyes properly.
He was smiling brightly, but behind that smile was a wound like mine.
The bus stopped at the next stop.
There was no one getting off, but the door opened briefly and then closed again.
