on the road

5. She doesn't remember me.

Do Kyungsoo's perspective
Later, I learned from Minseok that the girl's name was Xiao Xiaozhi, a sixth-grade elementary school student. I also learned that the song Minseok sang that day was "Fairy Tale," and that she and Minseok had grown up together since childhood.
I never saw her again, but her name remained in my memory, perhaps because seeing her for the first time rekindled my initial dream. After my one-on-one Chinese tutoring ended, my mother moved with me, and I officially started school in China. Three years of junior high school passed quickly; at that time, I only thought about returning to Korea after graduating high school to fulfill my dream of becoming a singer. In my first year of high school, I chose the humanities stream, so I was reassigned to a different class. One day, during English class, the teacher suddenly announced she would call on someone to answer a question: "Xiao Xiaozhi!" Hearing this name, I was pleasantly surprised. Yes, she was in sixth grade then, and I was in seventh grade; we had just started junior high, and we had become classmates! You know what happened next; I was called on to answer a question.
More than four years have passed, and she has indeed forgotten that we met once, nor does she remember my name. But that's okay, I will continue to approach her. However, I've begun to notice that the brightness in her eyes has vanished, leaving only a dark, empty void. What has she been through?
