Axel's POV
I literally felt anxious seeing Gavin there and the possibility that he a different voice in the other line.
"Hello?"
"Axe? This is Rose...."
"Aunty..Why do you have Rainne's phone? And...."
"We're now on our way to MMH Forks... Young Miss is unconscious...."
What happened? She's just okay and happy a while ago when we were together. "I'll go there... Don't leave Rainne and I'll call Kaiden."
I hang up the phone, pull a jacket and my car key before heading outside. I ran into the elevator and made a fast drive to be able to reach Bismarck as fast as I could.
I need to be there no matter what, I need to be with Rainne. After 20 minutes of fast drive, I finally reached the hospital where Rainne was sent.
I proceed to the emergency room knowing that Rainne may be in there and I'm right. I saw Nanny Rose crying, waiting patiently for the doctor to come out with good news. I walk closer to where she is sitting and caress her back.
"What happened, Aunty Rose?" I couldn't help but to be tense because of the situation, Rainne has a very weak heart and anything can happen to her, including her sudden death and that's the thing that I don't want to happen.
"When I was about to send her milk inside her room, I saw her laying on the floor."
"But what happened? She just suddenly faint without any reason? Is she sad? Mad? What?"
"I really don't know....She looks okay when she went home from the Mowry's"
"Mowry's?....She's with Gavin?" I feel anger getting into me knowing that Gavin may be the reason for this and I will not just stay still if it's true.
"No wonder.. Gavin is the only person who can make Rainne's faint." It was Kaiden who looked really pissed too about hearing that Rainne is with Gavin.
"Kai..where's Madi?" I ask
"She's on her way... How is she?"
"No update yet..Anyway do you want anything? I'll get you some drinks."
"No need, Aunt Rose.. we're okay." Kaiden says while smiling at Aunt Rose "I know you're worried too... Rainne is like a child to you, just stay here."
We saw Madi running in the hallway looking for us and when she saw us, she hugged Kaiden and cried.
"How is she? Tell me Rainne is okay..."
Kaiden was caressing her back and comforting her. "She will be fine, trust her...you know she's a strong girl."
After a minute the doctor went out of the emergency room.
"Kaiden and Madi?" She asks
"How is she Mrs. Pitterson?" Kaiden says
"Okay.. She's okay now... her heart beat is still unstable and she's still unconscious but she will be fine... She just needs some rest and.. You know that she's not allowed to feel stress and any strong emotion...so please look after her.....She will be move to her private room.."
"Thank you... "
Rainne was moved to her private room..we all stayed there for a while and since Aunt Rose needs to go home to check on the house, Kaiden decided to drive her home and Madi as well. I just volunteered to stay the night since I really don't want to leave Rainne.
Aut Rose told me that Rainne's parents will be there in a while since they are both in New York..I just stay besides Rainne, holding her hand and praying for her fast recovery.
I didn't realize the time and I didn't notice that I really fell a sleep. I just heard a voice that makes me awake and when I check, I saw 3 people talking and it's Rainne's parents and a Mr. Mowry. I pretend sleeping because it seems like their topic is all about Rainne and Gavin.
"How can we make them back together because it seems like your daughter ...." Mr. Mowry asks
"C'mon Miguel.. It has nothing to do with their break up..besides Rainne already made her decision" Mr. Henderson said.. Who looks annoyed by the tone of his voice.
"Don't worry about that Miguel.. This guy will go back to London soon..besides you know how much our children love...." She was cut when Rainne suddenly spoke...
"I'm here and I can hear you, Mom." She says and her parents run into her... I pretended to wake up and was surprised by their presence..
I check my watch and it's already 7:00 am "Good morning.. Mam and Sir.." I stood up and move to lend the chair to her Mom
"Good morning, Axel..thanks for looking after Rainne." Mr Henderson smiles at me and lend me his hand
"It's nothing.. I will do anything for Rainne." I felt a squeeze on my hand and then I realized that I was still holding Rainne's hand. I let it go and saw Mr. Henderson with his huge smile, different from the frown face of Mrs. Henderson and Mr. Mowry.
"Thank you but where is Rose...?" Her Mom asks
"She went home since she needs to check the huse and get some clothes for Rainne.."
"Mom..it's 7 in the morning please don't enterogate Axel..."
"How are you feeling now?" Mr. Mowry asks
"I'm a good uncle..you know I am a strong girl."
Uncle Miguel and Mr Henderson laughs..."You are right with that.. You will last for a hundred more years..."
"That's too long.. All my loved one's are already dead by then.." They laugh with what she says but I know that Rainne is getting weaker and weaker.. And she is just pretending because she doesn't want to see her parents sad.
"What about Gav..where is he?"
I saw how Rainne's smile vanished the moment she heard his name and then smiled at Me. Mowry.. "I'm not sure..."
"Maybe he doesn't know that you're here.. I'll tell him later...Anyway..just stay here for a week, you need to rest. I'll just talk to your parents in my office."
"Thank you, Uncle Miguel..." Her dad hugs her and her Mom just smiles at her. I don't get it but her Mom is so cold towards Rainne..
When it's just the two of us... She keeps on smiling at me that makes my heart flutter.
"I'll just wash my face and brush my teeth..I'll help you after." I get the toothbrush and toothpaste in the paper bag that I bought last night while waiting for her to wake up.
When done, I help her as well.. She looks so pretty even though she's just brushing her teeth... and since she's still in bed, I prepared a basin for her and the things that she needs.
"Thank you.. " She's shy that I helped her but she has no idea that I even fall for her because of that
"You're welcome as always.. Do you want to eat something?" I ask and she smiles, a wicked smile.
"Spaghetti, pizza and chicken..." And she burst out laughing when she saw me being shocked by what she said.
"I'll buy that but I am the only one who will eat it..." I got her there and she pouted...
"You're mean..it's just a joke.."
I sit on the chair next to her bed.."Are you sure you're okay? You don't know how worried I was when Aunt Rose called me last night..." I was caressing her hand and she just smiled at me and nodded. "It's him, I know it."
"Axel... "
"I know that he is important to you but you know that everytime you two talks it ends up for you being hurt and I don't want that.. I hate him for always hurting you..."
She smiles at me "Where are you going to have your residency?"
"What's with the sudden change of topic?" I asked because I was shocked with her question.
"I want to know... " She is serious..
"You know I love you right?"
She looks away feeling shy with what I said.."Whatever..don't answer if you don't want."
"That's my answer."
"Axel...." She looks at me shyly
"I'm going home after graduation...I need to but I'll surely go back."
She nods and smiles at me "Then I will wait."
Mr. Mowry's office
"I'll be frank with you Jin and Jenny.." Mr. Mowry is seriously looking at his computer monitor before showing the screen to Rainne's parents.."Rainne is a strong girl and we all know that, after her surgery when she was 13th she didn't undergo in any....but..."
"Whatever you're going to say, please don't let Rainne know about it... " Mr Henderson said while his wife is already crying... "She may look strong but you know she isn't at all.. Let us not take her only hope.."
"I know.. Rainne is like a daughter to me, Jin.."
"Please continue, Miguel."
"She needs another surgery.. As soon as possible.."
"What do you mean as soon as possible? Why?" Jenny asks
"As her doctor.. I can say that her heart is getting weaker and weaker..and I don't know if until when her heart can last.."
Rainne's parents broke into tears because of what Mr. Mowry says.. Their fear has come, the fear of losing their only child.. And feeling worthless because they cannot do anything... Jenny recovers fast from the news for she thinks that she knows what's best for Rainne..
"Let's ready their wedding before Rainne enters MMH..it's the best thing." Mrs Henderson suggested..but Mr Henderson is looking at her in disbelief "You know how much she loves Gavin and if they are together Rainne will be safe and happy."
"I agreed and besides..." Mr Mowry didn't able to finish what he is about to say when he was cut by Mr. Henderson
"She called off the engagement because she doesn't want to marry Gavin.. Let's respect her decision. "
"But hon..we don't know...."
"Exactly..we don't know when we will be able to find a perfect donor for her..and we don't know if until when she can be with us.. " Jin cannot help but cries...her little princess is suffering so much already. "As a father..Rainne's happiness is what matters the most. Let's not do things that can worsen her condition..I am begging you."
Mrs. Henderson took a deep breath before looking at Mr. Mowry and holding his husband's hand. "Okay.. just do the same Miguel, please take good care of our daughter. We're rooting on you, let's go, hon."
None of them is talking on their way to Rainne's private room.. They already know what to do and that is to pretend that everything is okay.
As soon as they enter Rainne's room, Axel is still there filling an apple for Rainne.
"Mom..why are your eyes..." Mr Henderson move closer to Rainne
"Ahmm. We can now take care of Rainne, Axel.. I know you are tired too..Take a rest first."
It's obvious that they are both suppressing their feelings and I can sense it.. "Yah.. I should go, I will try to visit later together with Kai and Madi.. I'll take care of our paper okay? Don't worry too much.. "
Rainne nods at him and smiles "Take care and thank you.."
"Bye.. I'll go ahead." I excused myself from her parents and went out..
Walking down the hallway of the hospital, I noticed a familiar figure sitting in the waiting area. I cannot control my anger and walk to his direction before stopping in front of him. He looks damn awful. That gives me a hint that he is here since last night.
"Don't you dare show your face to Rainne... If you don't care about her then stop hurting her.."
"I don't know what you're talking about.." He stood up and tried to walk away but I stopped him.
"You said that you don't care, and that you don't love her..so why? Why not leave her alone and let her move on? Why do you need to keep on hurting her? Why?"
He pushes me "She's all yours and I don't give a damn care.. Don't you know that this is our hospital?" I hate him for pretending that he doesn't care at all. "My Dad asked me to come.. He asked me to pay a visit since we used to be in a relationship..again he just asked me..................... Want to know the reason why I hate her the most? Because she is weak..I'm tired of visiting her in the hospital.. I'm tired of looking after her.. "
I don't give a shit if we are in their hospital, all I know is that I need to beat his damn face.. I push him and throw my fist into his face..He's laying on the floor and everyone is looking at us..
"Stay away from her.." I sit on top of him and give him another punch..then someone tries to pull me away from him...
"Stop.." One of the guards says..
The other one ran into Gavin and helped him stand up.. "Are you okay, Sir?"
He pushed the guard.."I'm fine.. Stay away from me.." He looks at me and says, "You better take good care of her and make sure that she really loves you.." After saying that, he storms out of the hospital.
That incident travels the social media so fast that it makes my parents call me in an instance.. They're worried about me that makes my Mom cry.. My Dad even scolded me and asked me to go home and not to attend my graduation but I refused. Rainne even called me multiple times but I ended up not answering her calls, I just left her a message that I'm going to visit her later after school hours..
I stayed in the library the whole day to finish the papers that we are working on.. Then I accidentally bump into someone, Blake.. He asked me for a moment..
"Whatever is your reason for being with Rainne.. I doubt it.." He looks so serious while talking and that makes me feel nervous.. "It comes to me so late, but I know that a Billionaire's son will not choose this place of all places... if he doesn't have any ulterior motive.. You are rich...smart, so why here? Why in all the med school, you chose here?"
I composed myself first and took a deep breath before responding to his questions.. I smile at him that makes him frown. "Whether you believe in sincerity towards Rainne or not is not my problem.. And to answer your question, why here? .... Because I'm a billionaire's son and I can do whatever I want..I'm studying the hospital itself in an isolated place like Grand Forks because I am planning to have my own hospital as well.."
"Is that all? There's a lot of isolated places all over the world.. I doubt that you don;t know that.."
"I know.. But Mowry's Medical Hospital is making it's name not just here but soon to be in New York.. isn't it amazing? From a small town to New York City.."
He looks at me unsatisfied with my given answer and gives me a smirk.."Gavin loves Rainne.. That's the only thing that you need to know." After saying that, he walked out and left me with his words.
This secret of mine will not be forever a secret and I know that.. If I chose to stay with Rainne, I need to tell her everything or she will hate me for life.. Either I tell her or not, I know she will still hate me and that's for sure..I just need time to tell her and make her understand that everything changes and I really love her..I just hope that she will listen.
While buying a basket of flowers in the flower shop, I received a message from an unknown number.. The person wants to meet me in a coffee shop near the hospital..As I went inside the coffee shop, I saw a familiar face. I walk into his table and she smiles at me.
"Long time no see Axel.." I sit on the chair in front of her..
"What are you doing here?"
Her smile faded and rested her chin on her hand "I'm here to remind you why you are here..it seems like you already forgot."
I gulp and look at her intensely.. "I know and you don't need to remind me.."
"Really? So can you accompany me somewhere?" She smiles at me, a smile that gives me goosebumps.
"Sure..Yah.Where do you want to go?"
"I want to see Rainne.." She smirks
"Sophie..." I clench my teeth and close my eyes for a moment before looking at her.. "If you will show up after a very long time.. What do you think she will think?..She will just suspect, don't ruin my plan just because you think I already forget."
Not now, I need to make her believe that I am still sticking to the plan..
"Why would she suspect if she doesn't even remember me? Are you actually falling for her?"
I took a deep breath and smiled at her "No..Wait until I broke her."
She laughs and claps her hands "Very well said, I'm sure your brother will be very proud of you."
"Leave everything to me.. I'll make sure to fulfill my goal here."
"I know.. I'm just checking. Anyway, I'll be at your brother's place tonight, so if you don't have anything in your schedule maybe you could accompany me?"
"I will.. I'll be there."
"See you then..Bye, Axel." She stood up and walked outside the shop.
I cupped my face and tears flowed down in my cheeks.. A tears of guilt and hate.I hate myself for coming here, for making a promise of revenge but ends up falling for the girl who caused all of this..How can I correct everything? How am I going to explain it to Rainne, that what I feel for her is real?
I calm myself first before stopping by the hospital but I just leave the flowers at the reception area and ask a favor to send it to Rainne's room. I don't need to be careful of my action.. I need to make Sophie believe that I don't have any feelings for Rainne.
Sophie is in my brother's old place.. And this is my second time being here. The first time was 3 years ago, when I decided to study here. This house reminds me of how my brother was back then, all his memories are here and that is also the reason why I never visited again. I don't want to be reminded of his pain, the pain that brought me here and led me to fall for Rainne.
"Here..." Sophie handed me a photo album.. "You will see how happy your brother is back then.. His life here."
I flip the pages of the photo album and look at it thoroughly...each picture shows a story. After looking at some photos she handed me a notebook that looks like a diary.. It's his diary.
"I want to read it alone.." I say to Sophie who just smiled at me
"Don't be swayed by her, Axel.. She doesn't deserve your kindness."
I am just looking at her while she keeps on talking..and telling stories behind the pictures.
"I will read this in my place.. I want to read it alone."
She smiles at me "As you wish..I'll be back to london tomorrow and by the way Ashton..."
"What about her? Sophie.."
"Don't worry, I did not tell her the real reason why you're here..but she kept on asking.."
Thinking about Ashton makes me feel bad..I feel bad for her and I feel like I'm the worst person on earth..
"Don't worry about our plan..it will succeed and I'm sure of it, we just need to wait and you need to trust me.. My word is my word."
"I know! I just don't trust her, anyway can you send me to the hotel? I have an early flight tomorrow and staying here is not a good idea at all, it brings back my old memories with your brother."
Okay..Let's go then."
AFter sending Sophie to her hotel, I decided to go home without replying to any text that my friends sent me the whole day. Honestly speaking, I don't have the guts to show my face to them , especially to Rainne. Not now and I don't think when can I face her without even feeling guilty and sorry for her.
As I was reading the diary of my brother, it's as if I am experiencing all the happy moments that he has and all the pains that he experienced here in North Dakota. I hate myself for betraying my own brother because I cannot fulfill my promise to him. I feel so worthless that I cannot do anything to bring back my brother and to make him happy again, because how can I if I myself was betrayed by my own heart.
I am now reading his last note in the diary..
"August 25, 2019
Today, I am so happy because Eli experienced playing baseball and she didn't faint. She was so happy and she asked me if she was good and I said yes.
She stays in the library again after our class and reads her favorite book..One day. She kills time until my time to close the library as she waits for me to finish my time of duty.
While walking on the alley, she gave me an invitation. It's the invitation for her birthday on 29th, she told me that I need to be there because I am important to her.
That made me so happy, so after sending her to the parking lot where her river is waiting, I decided to go to the mall and look for a perfect gift for her..
On her birthday, I will confess my love for her and I am hoping that me being important to her will be enough for her to love me back.

What happened after this? What did she do to you that you end up being like this? Give me the exact reason why, because I cannot help but to love her too.
My tears kept on falling because of the pain that I am feeling for my brother and the pain that I am not being honest with the woman I love.
One day, two until it's already time for her to be discharged but never did I pay her a visit.. I always say to Kaiden that I am busy with our paper works and that there are some personal matters that I need to attend to.
She keeps on calling me and sending me messages but just the same, I ignored it. Not now, not now that I don't know yet how to face her.
