🎶 What’s the Point of a Flirt? – Baek A Yeon

I was startled at first, but curiosity quickly took over.
I looked up and met the gaze of the novel’s first male lead—and wow.
He really was handsome.

A tiny, perfectly shaped face, sharp features with an unexpectedly cute gaze.
Even his lips were beautiful.
If I had to describe him in one phrase: cold but cute. That’s the vibe he gave off.

"Uh... do I have something on my face? Why are you staring at me like that?"

“W-what?”

“You’re not acting like the usual Jiyeon.”

Yeah, that stung a bit.
It would be a lie to say it didn’t.

Still dazed and trying to process everything, I kept looking at Kim Namjoon.
Then, he gently reached out and grabbed my wrist.

"Come on. We’ll be late."

Was this how the original novel played out?
No, of course not.
This world was already different from the source material—for one simple reason: I’m here.

“Jiyeon, are you feeling okay?”

“Huh?”

“It’s just... normally you never stop talking the moment we meet, and now you’re so quiet all of a sudden—it’s kinda surprising.”

Wow...
Just how much did the original Jiyeon talk for him to notice this much?

I was already overwhelmed by everything going on, and now I had to hold a conversation with Kim Namjoon too?
Desperately searching for something to say, I eventually blurted out:

“Namjoon, what class are you in?”

“…Wow, Jiyeon. That kinda hurts.”

“Huh? What do you mean?”

“I memorized your class, but you haven’t memorized mine?”

“Ah... tell me again, just one more time, and I promise I’ll remember it forever!”

“Really?!”

He smiled so brightly, eyes curving into crescents, that I couldn’t help but let out a soft laugh too.

“Yup, I swear!”

“I’m in Class 6. Not that close to your class, but what can I do—I’ll just have to come find you.”

I stared at his face as he said that, then quickly looked away.
He’s too handsome. No wonder I kept staring…

Before I knew it, Kim Namjoon had settled into my thoughts—
his face, his voice, his kind personality, even the way he smiled... it was all vivid in my mind.
I walked forward silently, lost in thought about him, when I suddenly heard his voice again.

“There’s no one in your class giving you a hard time, right?”

“…Huh? Oh! Of course not!”

“Do you have any close friends, then?”

“…Uh…”

That second question hit differently.
I could confidently say no one was bullying me.
But close friends? That was a hard one—especially since this was my very first day going to school after becoming Jiyeon.

As the silence stretched, Namjoon opened his mouth again.

“Are you... lonely?”

“…A little, maybe?”

Since I couldn’t answer right away, he changed the subject quickly and threw me an easier question.
And this time, I answered without hesitation.

Sure, there might be classmates I used to be friends with,
but right now I couldn’t count on that.
So I gave the safe answer.

“I’ll come find you during break. Wait for me.”

“Okay!”

As we walked, the school gates finally came into view.
Now that I was actually standing in front of the school, an indescribable wave of nerves washed over me.
Unable to shake it off, I let out a small sigh—haa…
I could feel Kim Namjoon glance at me from the side.

I just forced a smile and quickened my pace.

“I’ll come find you right after the last class. Let’s walk home together.”

“Yeah! See you later, Namjoon!”

“Listen well in class. See you.”

I had no idea where my classroom was, but thankfully Namjoon kindly led me there, and I arrived without issue.
But as soon as I stepped inside, a new problem arose.

I didn’t know where my seat was.

I stood awkwardly by the back door, thinking for a while, then chose the seat in the very back by the window.
Dropping my heavy bag onto the desk, I sat down.
Having woken up so early, my eyelids were starting to droop...

“…Hey.”

Someone tapped my shoulder and spoke softly.
I forced my eyes back open and looked up to see who it was.

And I knew instantly.

This guy is the second male lead.

There was no doubt—he was just too perfectly handsome.
His eyes, nose, and lips were all flawless, but that nose?
Unreal.
Like, how could a human being have a nose that high?
Yeah, he was definitely a main character.

“…Hey, friend.”

“Y-yeah? Did you say something?”

“This is actually my seat…”

Ah, crap.
I had no idea where my seat really was.
Maybe I could use this chance to ask his name, too?

“You—uh, super good-looking friend—what’s your name?”

“Oh, I’m Jung Hoseok.”

“Wow, even your name is cute! I’m Yu Jiyeon!”

“Oh… Jiyeon, that’s a really pretty name too.”

“Hoseok, do you happen to know where my seat is? I… kinda forgot.”

“I think it was right next to mine.”

“Oh really? Thanks! Looks like we sit next to each other—we should totally be friends!”

In the novel, the villainous extra Yu Jiyeon doesn’t start her “mean girl” phase until after the female lead gets close with the male leads.
In other words—I’m not a villain yet.

Which means…
I have time to get close with the boys before the heroine shows up and just… hang out together~~!!!

Of course, if I’m going to pull that off, I need to completely avoid the original plot where Jiyeon gets jealous, bullies the heroine, and turns full-on evil.
New plan: I’ll rewrite that part entirely and just aim to become the best, most loyal friend to the heroine and the boys.

Finally, during the break after third period, Hoseok and I had gotten close enough to have casual conversations.
We decided to leave the classroom together to get snacks and, more importantly, bond a little more.

But honestly?
The real reason I wanted to go to the snack bar was to catch a glimpse of Kim Seokjin, the third male lead who, according to the novel, frequented the school store often.

“Hoseok, what kind of snacks do you like?”

“Hmm... I like pretty much everything. I’m not picky.”

“Really?”

“Yeah, seriously.”

“No way, we’re exactly the same! I’ll eat anything too.”

“Being a good eater is the best.”

Oh no.
Hoseok just smiled at me for the first time—and wow, his smile was gorgeous.
How can someone’s smile be that pretty?!
What am I even supposed to do with that level of visual damage?

After seeing that smile, my head was filled with nothing but Hoseok's face.
I barely even realized we were still walking.
And, of course, it wasn’t until Hoseok stopped me that I noticed we were going in the wrong direction.

“Jiyeon, the snack bar is this way.”

“R-right! Oh my gosh…”

He gently grabbed my wrist and led me in the right direction, the movement so natural it made me blush.
I just quietly let him guide me, my cheeks burning the whole time.

When we finally stepped into the snack bar, I spotted Kim Seokjin, just like I expected, reaching for a banana milk.
Bingo.

Feeling satisfied, I started walking casually toward him—
But then I noticed someone standing next to him.
Someone with sharp, cat-like features and an undeniably attractive face.

He had to be another male lead.

I stopped in my tracks and tried to recall the story.
I stood there silently for a few seconds… and then it hit me.

“No way... Is that Min Yoongi?!”

Oops.
I didn’t mean to say that out loud.

“J-Jiyeon! He’s an upperclassman…!”

“…O-ohhh…”

“Who are you to speak informally to someone you don’t even know? Judging from your name tag, you’re a second year.”

"U-um…"

“I apologize on her behalf, senpai. She’s still half asleep.”

“Don’t bother with excuses. Just tell me your class.”

Great.
It’s official—I got on a senior’s bad side on day one.
Can’t wait to write that story in my diary: “How I got marked by Min Yoongi within 24 hours of transmigration.”

“…Class 2.”

“Hey, Seokjin. What floor is Class 2 on?”

“Yoongi, are you seriously gonna go find her?”

“Shut up. Just tell me.”

“Second floor...!”

“Oh. Thanks.”

Hoseok… seriously?
You really have zero sense of danger, don’t you? You’re way too nice.

“U-um, I-I’m gonna go now!!!”

I could barely breathe in there.
I gathered all my strength and dashed out of the snack bar—full sprint.
But then I heard Hoseok calling my name behind me, chasing after me.
And for some reason, that alone made me grin like an idiot and keep running forward.

“Yoongi, what was that about?”

“What.”

“Why was she so cute?”

“You’re insane.”

“Can’t I just say she’s cute?”

“Whatever. I’m leaving. Don’t follow me.”

“Wait, Yoongi—you’re gonna go to Class 2 later, right?”

“If I’m not too lazy.”

“Let’s go together.”

“…Do you like her?”

“What are you talking about? I’m just worried about her, idiot.”

“Then shut up if you’re gonna keep saying crap.”

Whew.
Thank goodness our class was on the second floor.
If I’d had to run any further, I might have died.

Completely out of energy from the sprint, I collapsed into my seat and became one with my desk.

“Huff... huff... Jiyeon!”

“…Hoseok?”

“Why did you suddenly start running like that?”

“Haha… No real reason. Why did you chase after me?”

“You just ran off so suddenly—I got worried.”

Did Hoseok even realize what he just said?!
Does he have any idea how dangerous those words are?!
What am I supposed to do when my heart won’t stop racing after something like that?

As my brain spun out into overdrive from that one comment, the bell rang.
Time for class.

Guess I’ll just catch up on sleep and recover from the chaos of this morning.
I dropped my head onto my folded arms on the desk and closed my eyes.
