To my triangle-square, to Junga.
The first snow has fallen, and the weather is gradually getting colder.
How is it where you are, Junga?
You get cold easily...
I hope it’s always warm there.
Yesterday, a thought suddenly came to me.
That you were performing surgery on me
until the moment you left for somewhere far away.
People didn’t notice, but...
If I had been conscious, how scary would it have been...
Thinking of you hurting all alone in that dark place
made me feel as if I were hurting too.
Only then did I think I understood.
So this is how we’re connected now...
Just as you could feel my pain,
maybe I too
was able to feel your pain.
Our first meeting, the one Junga hates remembering.
The moment you got out of the car, I wondered where on earth you were rushing off to like that,
That’s what I thought.
But the second I thought that,
your neck got caught on the sleeve of your cardigan
and you got pulled back again.
I almost spat out the coffee I was drinking then.
It was such a struggle holding in my laughter.
But then you went into our office, so
I was like, 'What?'
Only after I saw you sitting in the CEO’s office
did I realize, 'Ah... you’re my English teacher!'
Actually, the CEO thought Junga looked too young
and was wondering if he should look for another teacher,
but I strongly recommended Junga.
For some reason, I had a feeling that if I took classes with you
a lot of interesting things would happen.
You were somehow...
someone who seemed to live in a different world from mine.
Brave yet delicate,
and a little eccentric too.
On days I was going to meet Junga,
my heart always fluttered with excitement.
And I can’t forget the day
you told me you liked me too.
That day is still the happiest day of my life.
As I got to know you, there were times I hurt you,
and there were days I was hurt because of you, but
now I don’t remember any of that at all.
Only...
that we liked each other very much,
and that we loved each other.
And from now on, too,
until the day I come to you,
I’m not confident I could love anyone as much as I love you.
Honestly, I don’t even want to.
No matter whom I meet, I’ll think of you.
And if the day ever comes when I don’t think of you anymore,
I’ll suffer because of that fact too.
My first love, and
my last love, Junga.
I’ll remember the day I met you, fell in love,
and all the time we spent together, and treasure it as a memory.
Until the day I come to you...
Until then, even if life is boring and dull without me,
please hold on a little longer and wait for me.
With my heart and my promise,
I dedicate this ring and this letter to you.
Your triangle-square, Hoonji
P.S. Oh, and for our last bucket list,
I’ll come back safely. Wish me luck.
So I don’t end up a lost international wanderer!!🫰
